I'm about to build another system(thinking Intel quad core) and thinking about going with Vista this time around. I have Xp and MCE on my systems in my sigs. What version of Vista should I be looking at getting?? Will probably be in a microcase(since I already bought it) and using as a htpc also. should I get home premium or ultimate?? Will 2 gig of ram be enough???And also be able to game(Crysis, Bioshock, etc.)Here are some components I'm looking at:

already have this case http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1800613&Sku=ULT33118
How well does media center work? and I hear it supports QAM.. Any suggestions or opinions...

What will Vista give you that you don't already have?

2 gigs should be plenty, but it's so cheap that you could easily just get more if you felt like it. Look up benchmarks for things that you plan on doing and see if ram makes any difference.

That remote thing is really expensive for what it does. I could see something like that being $20-30. Most TV tuners even include a remote in the package.

The motherboard has onboard video which will not be sufficient for the games you mentioned. You'd be much better off getting a separate video card.

If I'm building a new system I'm gonna need a new OS. I plan on getting a video card, and you're probably right about the vfd display.don't really need it..

I would go with Home Premium. Really, the only thing Ultimate has over Home Pre is the Windows Extras and Complete PC back-up. While I like the back-up, there is nothing in Ultimate you cant get elsewhere for cheap or free.

If you are buying a new OS, you might as well go with Vista... its not like you will be running a AMD XP2100 CPU or something! Vista needs more power, you got ALOT more power than Vista needs, so unless you count frames, go Vista.

I agree, get Home Premium over Ultimate unless you just have to see the word "ultimate" on the boot screen.

I got Ultimate and I do feel a bit shafted, an extra 200 dollars was not worth video desktops =(
