Weird problem

Weird problem


my specs are in my sig .. i think my raptor might be failing ..
what happens is .. i will be watching videos on my pc or opening firefox or bascially doing anything ...

say i double click to open up a video .. wmp11 will open .. but nothing will happen .. then ill hear like a click or something like a click in my computer and then it will start playing .. this can also happen when i go to open a folder .. or a browser

any idea ?

Yep. You pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Check the serial number at Western Digitals RMA site.
I would bet it's still under warranty (unless it's as old as mine are).

i just run the WD diagnostic tool from wd and it said it passed all the tests ?

If it freezes, clicks, then starts working, it's a tale tell sign the hard drive is failing.
You can try updating the SATA RAID drivers or check to see if all the connections are tight (i.e. power connector).
You can even go as far as reinstalling Windows (clean install) but it probably won't make a difference.
RMA it anyway saying the drive is freezing/clicking occasionally.

Which OS are you running? And after you hear the "click", do you hear the drive(s) spin up?

A few thoughts to test your theory. Get Speedfan. Use the S.M.A.R.T. tab to read your drives data.

Use a tool like spinright. Even if the drive is failing, spinright can sometimes save the drive. If you do use this tool, it can take days to do a full on run.

well i called WD and they said if it is making a clicking sound .. the drive is failing and cant be repaired .. so they are sending me a new one .. should be here by mid next week

got my new hd .. and it is still doing it .. doesnt sound like the hd .. maybe the dvdr ?
