I FINALLY FOUND ONE YAY! Cost me $250 but I did find one. My current 8600m GT 512mb DDR2 is a dud for overclocking, maxing out at a punny 525/475, when mos users are hitting speeds in excess of 600+/500+. So...after a cheap whim with google and a model number, I found a place that had 5 in stock. When I get a reply asking if i was in stock for sure, 3 were left! SO I QUICKLY ORDERED ONE AND BAM, 1 was left :eek:

I can't wait! OC'ed my DDR2 hit 4.3k. My friend hit 4.6, I'm looking to break 5 in 3DMark06!

I have the DDR2 version unfortunately....and I heard the DDR3 is quite a bit faster. It will be very nice to see the difference in SM2/3 scores between us.

Keep us updated

I just got my Vostro with the 8600 that has GDDR2. I can't see the GDDR3 making a big difference playing WoW, WC3, and CS:S/TF2 though...especially since I'm not OCing.

can you pm me the link please?:)

do these fit in the mini-PCIE slot or what do they use to connect to the motherboard in the laptops?

DDR3 makes a huge diff in the cards. But my buddy has a 8600gt mwith DDR3 and the thing is so slow its pretty much steam powered. But hey its a laptop version of a 8600gt so its not that bad.

requardless it will be a nice upgrade going from a cripled 8600gt to one with DDr3. It should be pretty much like night and day.

Its a PCI-E Slot yes. But there are big size and interface constraints. So not all GPU's will fit X laptop.

well i was thinking of useing one on a Mini ITX board with a mini-pcie slot... but then the board also has a full PCIE 16x slot.. i just figured these would use way less power...

Post some benchmarks when you get it installed. I would like to see how big the preformance gap is.

Here are some numbers.

That's a pretty big increase! I'm surprised. I guess the RAM bandwidth bottlenecks the card pretty good.

yea it does. The 128bit bus does limit the card quite a bit. Nice scores. In Vista you should be right around 5K at max clocks for a 8600GT mobile card which is pretty damn good for a mobile card, but you get spoiled by a Desktop that can do 14K with a single gpu. Watch your temps. I wonder if you could volt mod the card? If you could and keep the card cool, I bet you could get 6K out of the card.

i have to ask... does the 8600GT-M = 8600GT performance wise? i wonder about power wise as well but thats harder to figure out. any one got a GPUZ of both of the 8600GT-M's?
