I am not trying to pimp my own site or anything, but I have compiled a tutorial on how to stream content from your PC to allow it to be played on your PS3. Now this guide is in its early stages still, but if anything is hard to understand you can use the email link there or post here.

I have guides to set up streaming for Tversity, Twonkymedia, Windows Media Player 11, and Fuppes right now. I am working on getting Orb tutorial available.

you can use winamp remote to stream to anything as long as it has a internet access, i think there was a post about streaming it to your wii some time ago, but it can be used with x360 ps3, what ever you want

WMP11 is terribly easy. It took some adjustments, but I can stream to both my PS3 and 360 effortlessly. I'd say it's definitely worth taking a look at for some. TVersity and is good, but I just prefer the overall ease of WMP 11. No programs to turn on...no problem :)

It's really pretty easy, especially since the codec pack that came in the last update. My PS3 sees both my Mac and PC on the network and all I have to do is share folders

And what type of content are you sharing? B/c music plays just fine, but I run into quite a lot of trouble as well as others with WMP11 with certain file extensions.

Do tell b/c the PS3 requires a DNLA compliant server or a USB hard drive to play the media. This is what I have gathered.

Interesting @ winamp. But the post you are referring to is Orb.

OSX is DNLA compliant and I think XP MCE is too which is what I'm running. The only problem I've ever had streaming stuff to the PS3 was unsupported file types. I prefer using the 360 for streaming though or a portable USB HDD.

Give me some ideas on the file types you are streaming with OSX. Because some things do play natively. Now Tversity can transcode the ones that are unsupported and allow the PS3 to play them.

Everything works now except for Quicktime, WMV and AAC, but AAC is not important as I've converted everything over to MP3 for compatibility. Same for the 360 with the exception of WMV.

I don't see why WMV isn't supported. Linux can play WMV.

No, I'm talking about straight up off of the PS3, If I boot it into Ubuntu and use VLC it'll play anything, but we're talking about straight from the cross media bar.

I will have to look into WMV files for playback.

No need. I got curious last night and tried playing back all file types. After the 2.10 Firmware download it'll play WMV now but still won't play AAC.

I appreciate the comment. I still have a ton of work to do on this thing.

My biggest priority is to figure out which container is the best possible combo for videos. My goal is to get a video file that provides HD quality, maintain 5.1 audio, and play on the PS3 without the need to transcode or using 3rd party software. It is a huge task, but there are others out there wanting to know.

I'll see if I can download a HD 5.1 video this weekend and play it over my network via the Mac and the PC then see how that goes. Maybe I can help point you in the right direction. I'll admit it, the only thing I really stream right now is music and porn.
