gts512 vs gtx for gaming at 1600x1200

trying to decide which one to go for here, was gonna wait on the gx2 but doesnt look so promising now, the 9800gtx looks like it'll be months away yet so want something that can cope and not just a budget stop gap

is it worth it for gaming at 1600x1200? either card is within my reach but dont wanna spend the extra on the gtx if i'm not going to see any benefits

The GTS512 is arguably better at that resolution. It overclocks better, stays cooler, has a new core, costs less, and barely loses to GTX on FPS.

(Unless you can pickup a used GTX for hella cheap or something), otherwise GTS512 all the way.

it will be able to do 1600x1200 just fine, my 8800GT does 1680x1050 and pushes out mighty good fps

Nod, I game at 1600x1200 with my 8800GT and it plays almost every game really well (go to hell Crysis! =D). And the 8800GTS is better than the 8800GT.

Err, if the GX2 is ~$450, why not grab one? It's going to be the fastest card around when it's released, and only $50 more than a GTX. You don't want a stopgap, and it sounds weird to say this, but I think the 8800GT/GTS are indeed stopgap solutions. People mention maxing Crysis as the holy grail lately, but more and more games are gonna require that kinda power to run smoothly.
