I tried to stress test my CPU with Prime95 but my E8400 won't go past 2.6GHZ. What could be the problem?

there are are 2 (or more) possible answers

one, your power saving technology is not disabled in the bios causing a drop in speed,
or your bios is defaulting the wrong multiplier IIRC these are X9 multipliers

I checked the BIOS and the default multiplier was set to 8x. I reset it and all is good now. Running at 2.99GHZ.
Thanks!
