Problem with my GeForce drivers

Hey everyone, I have been having a problem with my graphics card since I got it really. I can't figure out what it could be, but it has to be software. I built a computer last summer and grabbed this card for a decent mid-range set up. It works alright for normal stuff, but it just doesn't perform like I think it should with games. I have the 512Mb PCI-E GeForce 7950 GT KO and at first it ran like crap so I thought it was drivers. Currently my driver version is "6.14.10.9371" which is dated 10/22/2006. I went to the Nvidia web site and they recommended me "169.21" which was released 12/19/07. I try to download them and install but it says the file is corrupt or to check to see if it is a valid resource. I'm not sure what to do here. I know it can do better because a friend of mine has a 7800/slower CPU/less RAM and runs COD4 pretty decently. Another has a 8800/slower CPU/less RAM and it runs flawlessly. I would like it to do better than the 10FPS or whatever it gets.

quick specs:
Windows XP Pro
C2D 2.13 (E6400)
3Gb OCZ RAM
GeForce 7950 GT KO

Any ideas?

Try downloading the driver from a different website and see if it's still corrupted.
