Question umm, my computer smells like weed

completly serious when i say this, i dont smoke because it makes me sick which is why i am having an issue other wise i would have not made a post about it.

i am stumped though i am trying to find the source of this smell and i cant pin point it, i just put a 8500gt in but i would get whiffs of it from time to time before i put it in. i have a seccond on the way i could see if it makes it worse when i jam it in there

is it possible for hot electronic devices to smell in such a way?
its givin me a wicked bad head ache

Maybe a part of your computer was being used to smuggle drugs in to the country.

It's not your computer Niku-Sama. You have a chunk of bud in your nose.

Little tissue should clear it right up.

I noticed something similar when I put my 7900gs in my old rig for the first time a year and a half ago. I think it's just the effects of the components heating up for a period of time when they're new.

Granted mine was more like 'sterilized plastic' more than 'say brah-dude puff and pass.'

Yeah, all kidding aside, it's probably a peice of overheated rubber giving off a skunky scent. It reminds you of weed, and now that's what you smell everytime. I imagine it will resolve over time. I would blow out your heat sinks with some canned air, and check your temps.

Light an incense stick near the air intake, turn the lights down, get yourself a nice bag of cool ranch doritos, and check out the fractal screen saver for a couple hours. Mmmm Doritos.... then next time you 'light up' your computer, it will smell like patchouli.

BTW, Deadford? Is that what they call Medford?

Probably just fresh electronics. Yum.

My motherboards have been known to give off what seemed to be a sweet and in between smell.

LOL! That's nasty. I'd rather smell anything than cat crap.

Freakdiablo may have a good point about packaging getting caught under the heatsink.

Never really been to Medford. Drove through Medford plenty of times... I grew up Forest Grove, where the aged come to retire, the Hawaiians come to get an education, and everyone else tries to escape.

Hope your Hot Rubber quest is successful! (Don't quote me on that.)

I'd be wary of fumes from an unknown source giving me a headache. You should test your hypothesis by putting the comp in a small room like your bathroom and letting it run. If you can smell it you can breathe it and if you can breathe it your lungs can possibly absorb it.

Weed in computers? Computers smelling like weed?

You people sure your computer(or any of it's parts) was/were not used as a smuggling vessel from it's place of manufacturing?

My PCP&C 750w Silencer smelt like weed for a while... but there's no free space for smuggling...

LoL

Just take the sides off your computer, spray some canned air everywhere and let it sit for a couple days.

The smell can't possibly stay there that much longer, unless there is actually weed in your computer somewhere.

The RoHS can emit some strange odors. If it persists after 100 hour of being on(warm). Then blame something near you.
