Helllo, I was interested in your opinion of my 3Dmark score and gaming performance based on my system. I could care less about the actual 3dmark score, I'm using it only for research. My only hopes are a perfectly smooth TeamFortress 2 gaming experience, at 1920x1080

I am just a little confused here because I got rid of my 8800GT for the GTX. The GT gave me 9855 3dMark score. That means I gained only 28 from the GTX  Also, my TF2 fps. have only gone up only slightly. It still dips to 25-30. I game at 1920x1080 with everything on high, but the 3dmark score was done in default resolution.

here is a snapshot of the GTX scores, basically the identical as the 8800GT.

specs:

AMD 6000+ (3.0ghz stock clock)
M2N-Sli Deluxe
Xp Sp2
2gb Corsair XMS
550W PSU
Latest/Clean (DCleaner) nvidia drivers
*also tried installing AMD/Xp dual core optimizers, to no benefit
*very clean system, not much running in background, etc.

I would like to know what variable I can change to improve my gaming. Honestly, I expected to be blown away by the GTX, since I was gaming at such a high resolution, and it overpowers the GT considerably at 1080p with eyecandy on.

Some have said the AMD 6000 could be the source of my problems and I should go Intel C2D. I'm having a hard time justifyng that since the AMD seems like a great, fast processor, but you guys are the experts! The XP is a fairly fresh install as well.

-Thanks for looking
Jake

it's the dual core CPU man, when i went from a old pentium D 920 (@ 3.8GHz) and my first 640meg 8800GTS i could only score 8K+change in 3dmark 06. - when i moved up to the Core 2 e6600 (later that year) i was able to pull almost 12K. i'll tell you what, the GTS was like a new card once i hooked the e6600 to it. -

i use to get 10k with my e6600 @ 3.2 and 8800GTS 640mb @ stock on vista :p

now i pull 14.5k with system in sig on vista x64 sp1

so its just processor holding u back

indeed. the cpu is holding you back

get a core 2 duo. will up your score to at least 12,000 stock and around 13,500 -14,000 overclocked

Ok Yes you CPU is holding back your score. What you have to figure out is what you use your computer for . Is it for benching or is it for gaming? How does it play your games right now ?

i seriously see an extra 400Mhz of easy overclock on that processor, my 06 scores are only 3k away from yours with 2 8500's, pretty weak

OC the CPU more. The GPU is being bottlenecked. If not mistaken its bottlenecked to roughly 3.4Ghz on a Core 2 system. The more the better of course as once you go faster it seems to scale for quiet a bit.

As well while you traded your GT for a GTX, the performance between these 2 card can be very close to each other. Unless you crank the AA and AF waay up on them the GTX really shines then.

Asa well on my system I can get 40-50FPS in TF2 no issues at 1920x1200 with 4x AA, HDR, and everything cranked. This is with the 8800GT as well.

Jake--

I have the same motherboard, but with a 6400 and an 8800GT. I only get 11200ish in 3dmark with xp_x64. I've come to the conclusion that is really is a cpu issue. I didn't want to think that an amd chip could have that much of an impact, but I'm starting to believe it.

I don't know that a stock clock c2d is the answer, but a overclocked even just little bit will push alot higher fps.

my E6600 with a 8800GTS 320mb only got like 9400ish on stock clocks, but with a little help knocking on 13k

well.. with my quad and gtx at stock clocks, i pull in 12k plus change in06, default res.. because its only the free version.

with my quad at 3400ish and my old gts320 @ 648/936 i was able to pull in 12,2 in 06, maybe 12,5 i cant remember.

Whew.. think i was pulling in 12.5k with my system at stock. Your score should be much higher than that I'd think.

12k at full stock with a quad and gts 320? because right now with my current system i get a lil more then 12k stock, and 15k oced

edit i think it was in the neighbourhood of 10k stock with my gts320 and quad at stock clocks as well

The problem is that you're comparing an 8800GT to an 8800GTX at low resolution. 1280x1024 is not challenging for an 8800GT and with the new core, it's actually slightly faster when overclocked at lower resolutions, however as soon as the resolutions go up to 1600x1200 and above, the GTX easily pulls away. And as mentioned before, if you enable AA, the GTX pulls away from the GT also. The 8800GT is a great value card for those people that are still using small monitors, but for those that run resolutions of 1600x1200 and above with AA enabled, it's not even close.
