Warhawk: The Great Game No One Plays

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/03/18/...ayer-landmark/

I'll start out by saying 500,000 sold is NOTHING. That's shockingly low for a game that's been out this long. And it also has it's fair share of problems: It doesn't look very good, the controls take a hell of a lot of getting used to, and there are a lot of idiots online.

That said... this ain't no Halo. It even goes a few steps further than UT2004 in some places. It's very similar to UT2004 in fact... But whereas UT2004 just HAD vehicles... you can collect powerups and upgrades to your vehicles. In fact, every vehicle and role in Warhawk is more in depth than it is in just about every other game.

It's almost like a strategy game in that every weapon, vehicle, and player serves a PURPOSE.

A common strategy for me in UT2004, for example, was to get myself a hover thingy, fly over to the nearest base as fast as possible, kill everyone there, and take over the capture point.

In Warhawk you can get an entire TEAM of aircraft together, collect the appropriate upgrades, and carpet bomb an enemy position leaving nothing but devastation below.

Having a sniper is a completely different story because of the way the maps are laid out. There seems to always be an enemy within reach. Which means you'd have to have another unit just to take out the sniper. And you need anti aircraft shooters in order to prevent the aforementioned carpet bombing run, guys in jeeps to take out anti aircraft shooters. And, of course, the endless amount of foot soldiers.

It's certainly not for everyone... for all the reasons I mentioned up top. And if you get it you probably won't like it because it takes HOURS to get used to the controls. Once you do though, it's a completely rewarding experience... provided you're on a decent server with decent players. And you can still get a copy that comes with the Blutooth headset (if you already have a blutooth headset you can use that.)

Played this game in Beta and loved it, bought it right when it came out and continued to play for a couple more weeks. Honestly though, once I put it down I am yet to start playing it again. It was nothing wrong with the game, that is just how I am. Truth be told besides UT2K4 it is probably my favorite online game. (Yes I own Halo 3) It was just an extremely fun time to get on with some people that you know or were able to work as a team and some tactics.

Impressive Features: I remember reading the dev blog and amazing the game features 7.1 Doppler horn sound effect for the jeep. Meaning it actually accounts for things such as trees or buildings and projects a horn sound based up those factors. (Who needs graphics when you have that?)
