540 watt power suppl
saphire x1650 pro 512mb
audigy 2 zs soundcard
2 gig's kingston ram
120gb hard drive
amd athlon 64 3200+

what is a good asking price

thanks

yeah i agree.. im just in denial.. was good when i got it at the time.. depressing. ill have to go with a bran new computer package

If it's in a case and comes with Windows then I'd say closer to $300 if I was going to buy it. Sad thing is most computers at BB or CC for $399 with a 17" LCD are much better than this one.

It sucks when your awesome computer from 4 years ago is worth jack....

Here is my beakdown:

Asus k8v Delux motherboard - $40 (This is an old socket 754 board with AGP and no future to upgrade)
540 watt power supply - $35 (If this was a newer Corsair or Antec I'd bump it to $50 or so)
saphire x1650 pro 512mb - $40 (new on Newegg for $52.99 for PCI-X, this thing is AGP!)
audigy 2 zs soundcard - $35 (close to ebay prices)
2 gig's kingston ram - $45 (only salvation is DDR is way expensive now)
120gb hard drive - $30 (New 200gb for $50 on newegg)
amd athlon 64 3200+ - $25 (New 3800+ X2 is $40 on newegg)
Case - $30
Windows Install w/ cd and key - $70

Total: $350

If you'd like some help building a new system throw me out a budget and I'll help you build a screaming machine that fits right inside your budget. I love doing that kind of stuff, I hope people find it helpful.

yeah see what you can do lilbuddy with a budget of 1500 -2000$

First and foremost...do you need monitor(s) and an OS? If you need monitors I'd go with dual 22". That's about $500 so that's a huge chunk of the budget.

$2,000 is a serious rig...you are looking at dual GPU and some RAID. I'm real happy with my rig and it only cost $725. What do you want to do with this?

i dont need monitors or and OS i do infact have a case and im going to hold out on a sound card right now. and thats pretty much it.. see what you can do for me

thanks

All Out:

EVGA 780i SLI MB - $249.99 - $10 MIR = $239.99

Intel E8400 - $259.99

G.Skill 2x2gb PC6400 - $79.99

BFG 8800GTS - $254.99 - $30 MIR = $224.99 x 2 = $449.98

Thermaltake Armor Case - $149.99

Corsair 750W PSU - $174.99 - $45 = $129.99

320gb Hard Drive - $79.99 x 2 = $159.98

DVD+RW - $29.99

Thermalright Ultra 120 - $57.99

Total: $1,672.89 - $115 MIR = $1,557.89

$2,000 is a lot to spend unless you want to just blow money...If you go with one GPU you could keep the same case but if you get 2 GPU's I'd get a full tower case unless you already have one.

What do you want to do with this computer? If you want to game get the E8400. If you encode video more get the Q6600. If you game a lot and it is the most important you can get 2 GPU's and you will be able to run higher resolutions and more FPS. Also, if you aren't using a big monitor then the SLI video cards probably isn't worth it.

Well my point is that $2,000 can be a waste. That system for $1,557 is a beast and excessive I think unless you like to blow money.

yeah you make a good point.. it is all about the gaming with this rig.. now that i think about it 2000 is a bit pushing it..

Depends greatly on your usage/desired performance? That system can't handle games like Crisis nearly as well as an SLI'd Tri-GTX system with a QX9650 OC'd to 4.1Ghz and thats more "blowing money." That doesn't mean it's any less of a beast itself, but substantial gains can still be achieved for the price range under $3k. Also, if you're not going to utilize the SLI, drop the 780 board and go with a P5-E or something substantially less expensive. Also, differing hard-drive solutions are needed to meet the demands of different situations (sizes and speeds). Not to mention, you'll be needing a windows license which is another $100 minimum.

edit: (example)

After MIR: 1527.90

Some other options include changing the cooler for a thermalright solution (great coolers), upgrading the cards to GTS', upgrading to an E8400/Q6600 or upgrading to 8GB of memory. That system actually includes windows in it's calculated cost and is cheaper. Due to having included an after-market cooling solution in the cost, you can expect to OC that processor past 3.6Ghz without any problems. I kept a majority of the parts the same for comparisons. This list was made using newegg.
