Crossfire works on Nforce Sli Chipsets! Yes its true!

Well i dont know why this has not been talked about..or maybe no one knew about it...but yes it seems to be tru with the diamond brand 3870's you can xfire on sli mobo's =D.. want proof? too bad go find it yourself...

jus kidding... heres the link http://www.hothardware.com/News/Diamond_Multimedias_XDNA/

"Diamond xDNA technology-enabled features allow for multi platform, cross compatibility, CPU & chipset agnostic support for any motherboard. xDNA allows Diamond Radeon graphics cards to run CrossFire™ on Nvidia, Intel, or AMD chipsets."

im wondering if theres a way to make all brand 3870s work on sli boards just not the diamonds...imo it has to be software bound

I was under the impression the reason SLi isn't available is because nvidia forces SLi to use a specific chip (which is installed on the mobo seperate of northbridge). Xfire just uses the PCI-e slots with the bridge and drivers.

For more info on the chip checkout firingsquad.com's review on skull trail platform, it's mentioned in there, I'll try to find it.

*edit* actually it looks like it's just a licensing thing for SLi, which doesn't need to be purchased if you use this nvidia chip, MCP 100

" Intel has not licensed SLI technology from NVIDIA – they purchased NVIDIA nForce 100 MCPs to enable support for SLI" - Firingsquad.com

*edit 2*
"There's no license fee for ATI CrossFire technology, the company said." - xbitlabs.com

your wrong...it does infact work...atleast the diamond brand does...im on another forum as well and there are others researching this as well...oh and fyi it dont matter if its intel or amd...the diamond 3870's will work on both platforms which support sli...i already gave you the link above...might help to check it out =)

thats quoted from the site just incase you didnt read it..if this indeed works and is tested nvidia could be in trouble if this gets out...that means that ati will have a compatibility edge which imo would be huge in this situation.

another forum on this topic is starting on page 5 half way down http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=286774&page=5

I just don't get it, if SLI and CrossFire were allowed on any mainboard, shure they would sell a few less mainboards, but they would sell many more graphics cards.

nVidia is a greedy pig charging horribly for their SLI mainboards, $110 for the NB to the 790?

It's nice to see an OEM do what should be done, now only if nVidia's OEMs(and more of ATi's) would start doing the same, allowing SLI and CrossFire on any mainboard that is capable of it.

heh...what am I wrong about? I think it's totally possible, in fact in my post I say all you need is the pci-e slots and the bridge on the cards... Although if you spend 250 on a nvidia motherboard and run Xfire when you can run SLi I think your an ATI fanboy. Has anyone tried Xfiring other manufacturers cards on a nvidia board? I don't know...I think it would work but again right now (not saying this is a bad thing forever) if you spend 300 on 9600GT's you'll crush 2 3870's costing slightly more....the reason ATI is nice is because mobos cost 100 bucks and = performance of 250 nvidia boards.

I knew this was possible. The stars told me!!

No, I read something like this 2 years ago, or I dream it, or I made it up in my mind or... the stars told me

Sure but the question is who would want to? Granted that may change with 790i but we're not there yet ;)

790i is already out and it's HORRIBLY overpriced, and it produces as much heat as a smaller CPU.

I believe there's going to be SLI on the X48 from Intel, but that's only because nVidia is getting money out of it, whereas CrossFire is free.

ROFL w/e bro...two 9600's will crush two 3870s? do u know what your talking about? i guess not, do some more research...the 3870's actually stomp the 9600's in crossfire vs sli mode..and are faster in single card setups as well

BUT back the to point...this is not a buy ati over nvidia thread for your sli mobo...im simply saying that its nice that a video card maker is able to work on both platforms which is a huge plus in my book...im not saying omfg sell your 8800 gtx's and get 3870s...im saying there are ppl with 3870s that do have sli mobos cuz they prefer ati or w/e the case may be...and its awesome they have the option to use 2x3870's if they want too...and i would buy 2x3870s over 2x9600's any day of the year...

790i is already out and it's HORRIBLY overpriced, and it produces as much heat as a smaller CPU.

I totally agree

im sorry bro but that site has always had ati rated low....i guess i'll have to look around myself and get some to link to you =/...but really this thread isnt about that...i thought i made my point clear on the last post

heres a link where the 3870 beats out the 9600 easily.. http://en.expreview.com/2008/02/23/geforce-9600gt-review/?page=11
and another http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/21/nvidia_geforce_9600_gt/page13.html http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/21/nvidia_geforce_9600_gt/page12.html
and another http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/foxconn_9600gt/9.htm .. there u go mulitple sites where the 3870 is the CLEAR winner...

but back to the subject...does anyone here have a sli board and a 3870 that would be able to test this?
