Hey guys, new guy here, new to over clocking and looking for a little push for my sorry little Intel D 805... Here is what is inside my case:
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI
Intel Pentium D 805 @2.66GHz On stock cooling
2x 1Gb Corsair PC-5300
eVGA 8800GTS 640Mb
D-Link PCI Wireless N
Coolermaster eXtreme Power Duo 650W PSU
Thermaltake Soprano Case
2x Exhaust Fans (1x 120mm, 1x 90mm)
1x Intake Fan (120mm)

So... Any good numbers I should try first? (I am comfortable with changing all settings) Just trying to get a little more out of this before I upgrade :) Thanks!

eye managed to get my D805 up to 3.7 stable took a lot of volts to do it tho ! and 5 xtra fans & piping the comp box into the house a/c hahaaha

cpu volts 1.60 (and up dependibg on board vdroop)
rams on 2/3 divider with 2.1 volts ( but that was my ram and board limits at the time )
system volts 1.6volts ( again the limits of that board at the time foxconn 945p7aa-8ks2 that was all the voltages it had)

good luck!

edit: almost forgot had to raise the pcie clock up to 124 to get thier &
keep the pci clock stock ! ( so ya dont corrupt hrad drive data)

Well it just plain quit working, hangs on the memory test, ah well good excuse to upgrade now :santa: What would make a stable combo (CPU/MB) for 24/7 use, and as cheap as possible?

Under $350, I just got off the phone with the local Pc Club, and he said a Core 2 E6550 and a Gigabyte motherboard would be $270, And to expect an increase of 40% at least. (I have done business with them many many times)

for $350 you can do better. I assume that is just for mobo and cpu and perhaps RAM?

CPU:
$215.77 X3110 (overclocks to 4GHz easily)

or

$180 E6750

Mobo: $90 GA-P35-DS3L (be awared it does not support RAID) if you need it go with DS3R

You will need faster RAM if you are going to overclock your X3110
$95 GSKILL 2x2GB DDR2-1000

P.S. the E6550 has a multiplier of 7, and your memory will hold you back if you intent to overclock. If you want to save money on a CPU then go with 6750 (multi 8).

Going in to talk to him in a few hours, He said he will cut me a deal on it. So I may be walking out with something a little better than I thought! :) I will look at a few higher end C2D's and see which fits the budget. What are some good coolers?

Walked out with the Core 2 Duo E6550 and the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L for under $250 after taxes. Have to wait to get the screws and other mounting hardware (didn't come with it) Should I be a happy camper with this setup?
