Its Hitting 74C after running orthos for about 10 min

was wondering if this is normal for the chip, or if I should back down on the OC a bit :/

Im running it at 3125 (250 X 12.5) with a 1.45 v core
The annoying thing is that Im 100% sure its seated right. First thing I did when I noticed the temps being so high was reseating it, and applying new thermal grease. Then I installed a 90 mm case fan to go with the 250mm fan that I already have.
The heatsink that im using is the Alpine 64, which from the reviews I saw was more or less average compared to most other coolers.
I guess ill back down a bit unless someone has an idea.

i think u might be using to much grease. and how are u putting on the grease? I run a thin line down the center and let it spread out on its own. i didnt think it would work very well but its the only way i do it now.

and that cooler is not very good. not much better then stock i dont think.

you would be much better off with this for 20 some bucks.

i use one of these:

on sale for $30 (after a mail in)

i run my 5200+ on average at 3480Mhz (290x12) and about 1.475 volts and i never see temps that high, it posts at 3600 but wont go into windows, not sure what the deal with that is, it goes fine asks how i want to boot (safe mode normal ect) then nothin just stops....

any way, if you OC i suggest a new cooler

hmm
yea ill Probably change my cooling.
Thanks for the advice all.

Get a Thermaltake Big Typhoon, keeps my X2 cool at 30C idle and 45C load with 1.55v going into my abnormally "hot" X2.

My Artic Freezer 64 keeps my oc to under 35c under load and i got mine to run at 3.277ghz. The temps are read from CoreTemp and CPUID Hardware Monitor. I also have an Antec 900 with 4 120mm fans and the big boy 250mm on top. I also have done this mod to my 900 and lemme tell ya, it makes a friggin' world of difference. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=126395

If you have this case, I would really suggest doing it.

Scythe makes some great coolers. I am running a Scythe MINE cooler and it is doing a terrific job. The Ninja's are super also. You have to check case fit with these coolers - they are pretty tall. About $49.

Why are you using half multi ? That decreases memory performance.

FSB, Multi, CPU Clock, divisor, Mem Clock
200 10 x 2000 5 400
200 10,5 2100 6 350
200 11 x 2200 6 367
200 11,5 2300 6 383
200 12 x 2400 6 400
200 12,5 2500 7 357
200 13 x 2600 7 371
200 13,5 2700 7 386
200 14 x 2800 7 400
200 14,5 2900 8 363
200 15 x 3000 8 375
200 15,5 3100 8 388
200 16 x 3200 8 400

Check the attacment for my benchmark results

I am sorry, but that is just imposible. Cpu thermal diode in Brisbane is broken.
Aux is my real cpu temp

vlaszlo, what case do you use and what kinda airflow do you have? Like i said in my sig i got tons of airflow. My idle temps are 5-6c and under load they go up to around 35c. That looks like a fair jump in temps so I dont think the diode is broken or it wouldn't read it increasing or it would be a crazy jump in temp.

Yes, but 5C idle is sub-ambient temp, that is just imposible unless in your room is zero Celsius, or you are using DryIce,or big peltiers,or Vapo Chill. This has been discussed many times in this forum. I am saying this only to be aware that your temps are higher with atleast 10C.

This is my case: i have one 12cm exthaust fan, intake none

I just ordered one of those, I will tell how well it does on my G1 brissy tomorrow

First of all qwhy are you messing around with the multiplier and such so much. Just up the multiplier to 16x and up the voltage to no higher then 1.5v. Thats it. the 5000+ be is the best AMD overclocker ever. You should not even have to go through all that stuff.

I got mine running with the Scythe Kama Cross with the Ultra Kaze 120mm fan. Almost as good as water cooling.

Hi

I am considering upgrading from a 3800+ 939 Venice on an Asrock Dual sata2 mobo and was thinking of using this processor (5000 Black edition) with the AM2cpuboard and 2 GB Crucial ram. Anyone know if this would work in o/c mode?

Then again I could look at a E2220 with new mobo etc but about $100 more to spend.

Am using hiper 525W psu with DVD drive, 9800 pro (to be u/g to 7600Gt or thereabouts) and 4 hard drives.

TIA :)
