Which X48 board? Just need a few opinions

Hi people,

My P5B has died and I am going to upgrade a few things and I'm stuck on the motherboard part of it.

The candidates are

Gigabyte X48 DQ6

DFI X48 LT

Asus Rampage Formula.

My brother has the maximus x38 board and i dont really like the bios. both the dfi and gigabyte look great.

i want to overclock a q9450 as far as possible

which one should i go for?

thanks in advance

I would not buy board from dfi. I usually stick with gigabyte or asus for intel boards. Gigabyte are not bad. You can probably find some reviews on the net of particular mobo and draw your own judgment.

I'm enjoying the Gigabyte X48T DQ6 Great board. There is a DDR2 version as you probably know it's pretty much the same design.

I would have gone DFI if a DDR3 board had been available but if you want ddr2 it's probably among the best.
DFI LT X48-T2R there's also the UT version as well, Official DFI LanParty UT X48-T2R(and LT) Discussion

luck

Hey stdu007, what is your NB temps on average? I am getting ~58C at idle on a 400 FSB. Doesn't sound right to me. This is monitoring with EU.

Care to comment Why? I love my board, as well as my previous DFI P35 board, and my Previous to that DFI Ultra-D, and my Previous to that DFI NF3.

To the OP, the DFI X48 is a very stable board IMHO.

arent DFI board the type - they can be very very picky, and take alot of tweakign to get perfect, but once set they are awsome boards. it is just getting them stable kind of thing?

I don't think their necessarily picky, but there are a lot of settings , some of which aren't optimised. What I mean is that on other boards there will be an Auto setting , which is set by the manufacturer for optimum results , this isn't always the case with DFI , to optimise the stability/performance the user needs to set it right. The DfI boards are a bit like sports cars no automatic gears  I think though they are now improving on that & people are getting good results.

nice review stdu007, only thing that I saw diappointing about the Rampage is the lack of a dual channel GTLRef. If running a Quad this is a major setting in terms of optimising performance
luck I found this key on optimising performance on Abit X38 QuadGT It's interesting that the DDR3 version of the Rampage, the Rampage Extreme hasn't appeared , instead the Asus DDR3 Flagship board is the ASUS P5E3 Premium which is a neewer design with dual channel CPU GTLref.

luck
