Frosty Tech Reviews

Anyone know whether the heatsink reviews on Frosty Tech are trustworthy or not?

This list is what I'm really interested in:

I have not heard of that site.

I prefer Anandtech's list. Its smaller but has all the major HS's

The newest review uses coretemp instead of ntune though, so you can't really compare them to older ones.

Thats strange becasue they say that their test are synthetic

By using a synthetic heat source, Frosty Tech has potentially more consistent test.

However, they haven't been rigourous in ensuring fans, when not supplied with the heat sink, are consistent in their tests. As a result, the Thermalright Ultra outperformed the Ultra Extreme.

Additionally, the synthetic heat source doesn't model the effect of the heat distribution on the face of the IHS. Exposed heat pipe HSF do well on their tests. In real life, only one of the heat pipes works with the hot part of the IHS.

The FrostyTech review only tests up to a 150W heat source. OK for a Duo but an overclocked Q6600 can put out well north of 200W @ 3.6GHz. If you are running a quad, I would find tests in that range before buying.

Yes, that review tests with a Q6600 at 3.3GHz, which puts out about 160W. This is OK, but the power level jumps considerably beyond 3.5GHz and my Q is pulling about 215W at 3.6GHz.

Either way, it seemed like an extremely well-conducted test... interesting.

Too darn bad I can't seem to find the Vendetta 2 anywhere for sale.

When I asked OCZ about online prices today, they told me that NewEgg will soon have them and to search by the SKU number until then: OCZVEND2

How do you calculate how much wattage is being pulled by your processor?

Power is proportional to frequency * Vcore^2. I recorded my overclock data from 2.4GHz to 3.6GHz in a spread sheet and it did the math, assuming that the chip pulled 86W at stock speed. This corelates well with some actual power measurements that I made with a Kill-A-Watt meter. When you graph the data, there is an obvious wall above 3.5 GHz, where small gains require ever more Vcore. I stopped at 1.4375v bios / 1.4v loaded.

$50 is a start I guess... still cheaper than the TRUE. Not in stock, tho.

Nono, I'm in the US... I was saying I didn't want to buy from Canada Computers. I've debated the XT and KW versions of the rifle cooler for some time, but thought maybe I'd go with the OCZ for the heck of it... maybe not.

Oh! Then in that case, just wait a week or two. OCZ assures me that NewEgg will have it listed very soon. Yesterday I could search OCZVEND2 and get about five retailers with it, but now none of them come up.
