Anyone know jewerly, specifically what its worth?

I was cleaning out my safe and found two gold chains that I forgotten I had. I want to sell them, but have no idea what they are worth

Here are the specifics:

Both 14k yellow gold Herringbone and it good condition

One 22" long 6mm wide
One 20" long 5mm wide

I tried looking on the net, but I got prices anywhere from $300 to $1000 and as far as I know $300 could be way too much(but I hope not)

Thanks for any help

To be able to know anything you need to weigh it. Use an electronic scale that shows grams. Then you can get an exact amount.

FYI, my family owns a couple pawn shops and I like to say that I know quite a bit about jewelry, diamonds and gemstones.

Then don't tell them you want to sell ask for an appraisal. It might be a good idea to get more than 1.

Weight is all that matters, for you chains, unless they are SUPER AWESOME or something.

Gold's price is up up up, so you might be surprised for what you get.

Yea unfortunately you missed when gold was at $1000/oz, but lets face it, the only people who have an ounce or more of gold are dealers.

Guesstimating here, I'd say you'd be looking at about $300 worth, less if you take it to a pawnshop. To get value for it you need to find a smelter.

Don't get too excited and don't sell to Pawn Shoppes. If gold is worth $1K an ounce then a pawn shoppe will give you $100 an ounce. You can get a certified accurate appraisal from a well known jeweler and try to get lucky on Scum-Bay or Crunkslist......

Melt 'em down. I've been saving any silver I can find to smelt someday. Mostly Silver dimes and quarters. It's worth more that way.

Yeah, tell that to most Indians who do this for a living.

I used to work with an Indian family (Patel) and there son was telling me about how ALOT of them take our old silver money back to India, melt it down, make it into bracelets and rings etc..., and sell it back to us for up to 5x it's worth in weight.

I know it's illegal, I have not actualy done this yet though. I'm stock piling right now.
