I want to build a new multi-purpose system that will run as a ..

  • Home network storage server
  • Web file server
  • P2P seeding machine
  • Team 32 Folding machine
  • Video converter (AVI to DVD)

The system would most likely run 24/7 so it needs to be power efficient and cool running. I want to spend as little as possible on the system but it does need to either relatively high performance out the box or be overclockable .. I already have a case, PSU, video card (PCI-E), HDDs and RAM so really I just need a mobo and CPU ..

With what I have said in mind, what would you guys recommend ..

Cheers

Well for new stuff I'd say get an E4500 or E2180 and a cheap P35 based board. You can probably get those less than 100 used in the states.

If you don't need blazing fast and want really really cheap you can get a Pentium D (not gonna be a champ at avi to DVD, but if your not gonna do a ton of converting it can hand all the other tasts with ease).
