Honda Crf50 cheap engine mods!

OK guys i have and have been riding a replica of a honda Z50 since i was 13 (almost 6 years now) i have put almost 9000 miles on the little thing riding around my neighborhood and at about 4000 miles i wanted more power cus the 50cc motor just wasnt enough to get me around the hilly area... the 50cc motor had not lost power or anything (it is a "cheap chinese" remake) its just that well as all of us motor heads are we want MORE!

So i ordered a 110cc 4 speed manual motor and bolted it right up to the stock frame no probs and its been that way for about 2 years without problems. Recently i started working on a jeep and realized that a good spark made quite a difference so i went looking for cheap mods for 50 motors.

I ended up doing 3 mods to my 110cc and i must say it made a decent improvement all across the board, low end to high end saw an increase in torque and power (as if i didnt have enough already) there is a much better idle (because i have to run on the richer side for the high end) and throttle responce is improved.

CHEAP MODS (these can be done on pretty much any honda style horizontal motor like the crf50 and crf70 have... like the Lifan 110cc in my Z50)

PREMODS.... first off if you already havnt done it, get urself a UNI pod filter... much better than stock and should have been done when you first bought the bike if you already didnt.

1st. Advance the timing... its pretty easy and netted probably the most increase in power out of all the mods. CLICK HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS

2nd. Head breather pipe... its VERY simple and costs less than 5 bucks. I made mine out of a 3 dollar brass fitting from the hardware store and left over 3/8ths inch fuel line from my jeep project. I drilled out the tappet cover just smaller than the threads on the brass fitting, screwed it in / sealed threads with permatex RTV, and slid the tub onto the tube end CLICKIE FOR INSTRUCTIONS

3rd. Spark plug mods. essientaly there are 2 mods here, one is side gapping the spark plug, Illistruated here... and the other is indexing the spark plug, HERE
Essientally what these spark plug mods do is 1. Make the spark of the spark plug hotter by making the spark travel corner to corner instead of 2 flat pieces. and 2. "aim" the most open area up into the combustion chamber / intake so the fuel will ignite more through and faster.

Overall these 3 simple mods produced a more healthier motor, Before it ran great, but now my 110cc runs awesome!

BTW here is the index page to these mods, with more specific to CRF50 mods
http://www.dirtbikemods.com/mini_bikes/index_mini.php

And if your looking for more power, and dont want to spend the REDICOLOUS amount of money on a 110cc bore kit... get a WHOLE NEW 110cc 4 speed from these guys... bought all my motors from him and NEVER ONCE had a problem with "chinese crapy quality motors" Infact the company that produces these motors got the molds directly from honda, and produce FOUR TIMES as many of these motors as honda actually does, and are considered honda of china!

http://www.hooperimports.com/ (this guys is SUPER nice, ask him questions he is always there for ya! he is a US dealer for lifan)

(i currently have this motor ... i bought it back 3000 MILES AGO. and i beat the living crap out of it EVERY DAY, and it just keeps on ticking)

The only reason why i wrote this thread is because i thought these mods were going to do nothing, and turns out they did do something very positive to performance, and its nost just a placebo effect!

EDIT... i will also let you guys know that just recently my cousin wanted more power out of his crf50 ... so i told him that if he bought a 110cc from hooper imports that i would install it... I had ZERO problems installing it, everything lined up perfectly. and in the process it made his bone stock crf50 into a suicide machine.

careful on the timing, too far and you'll burn holes in the tops of your pistons.

Naw its not that far ahead... i only advanced it ~ 2* over stock... they say dont go above 3mm if you dont know what ur doing... and ever MM of movement is 1.05*.. i know what detonation sounds like haha, it would be very aparent if i advanced too much upon first start up and idle if there was detonation cus at low rpms is where it would happen... i mean my jeeps vacume advance gets up to 25* of advance BTDC... i just am very impressed at the overall difference, its not tons... not like the jump from a 50cc to a 110cc but it made everything just better...

haha dirtbiking is a huge part of my life... i love it next weekend im heading out to redrock, and 2 weeks after that is the Piru track.

I mean putting over 9000 miles on a little mini bike in 6 years riding around your neighborhood lol! its got more miles that my dads full size crusier... a Honda VTX 1800cc

Tommorrow i think ima grab a coupla of new spark plugs, cus the one i modded today was old and degraded... as you can tell i always want more power, haha i love horse power!
