I have just priced up a new rig for myself

AMD Phenom X3 8450 £96
Geil Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel Kit £31
Seagate 250GB Barracuda SATA II 300 7200rpm 16MB £36.50
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H , AMD 740G, S AM2+ £41
Benz Black Super Midi 400W silent PSU £28.50
Asus Extreme Radeon HD 3650 256MB DDR3 PCI-E £51
Samsung SH-S203P 20x Dual Layer SATA Drive £21

You might want to get 8650 instead of 8450. 200MHZ more for only a little tiny more money is worth it. According to the test results I saw, 8650 @ 2.3GHZ stock speed is only 3% different in performance compare to 6000 x2 @ 3.0GHZ in single thread programs, and it is 27% faster in video encoding. After slightly overclocking, you will have something way faster than any of the overclocked X2 can ever reach.

I will get that then it's only £10 more thanks for the advice.

140W TDP for the 9950? Is that correct?

It's already only 13€ difference
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...on,1918-7.html

P.S.
According to Tomshardware, in Average with same clock speed, x3 is only 6% slower than x4, while 23% faster than x2.

It means if you can overclock your x3 to 3.0GHZ, it equals x2 @ 3.7GHZ.
If overclock x3 to 3.2GHZ, it's the same performance as x2 @ close to 4GHZ, or equal to a 4MB L2 Core 2 Duo at 3.325GHZ(got that number from the fact 6400+ x2 @ 3.2GHZ = E6750 @ 2.66GHZ), and don't forget the 1 extra core.

Not bad at all.

P.S. If anyone noticed, the so called "can use quad" Supreme Commander isn't all that good at using the extra core. x4 only gain 1.7% performance over x3.

I don't see any FX processors on there. Did they stop the whole line? Wasn't there supposed to be a quad core to replace the FX-74 (that's the dual socket one right)???

Well that's current and near future pricing, FXes might come next quarter and were planned so but wouldn't hold my breath for it, the BEs are to replace the FXes until AMD can become more competitive and charge FX prices for procs.
FASN8 was dropped by AMD but Asus makes BIOS for barcs compatibility.
