Ghetto mod showoff

Sorr if this has been posted before (Propably been ten times already), but a good ten minutes of seraching has proved that it either hasn't, or that I simply suck major arse at searching. Propably the latter.

Anyhow, in case there hasn't been a thread like this before, I might as well start this one off good, but posting some of my ghetto mods.

In no particular order:

My flipscreen laptops:

They're old Compaq Armada V300s, armed with 466MHz CPUs, 256MB RAM, 4MB RAGE video cards and 4GB HDs. They work flawlessly as pictures hanging on the wall.

My 7600GS:

This used to be a passive cooler, 70mm fan mounted, never over 40C under load with the fan on lowest setting, oc'd to 600/500MHz.

My 6600AGP:

My leetest mod so far :P A Radeon 9600 heatsink with an Intel socket 423 fan mounted on it. It's really silent, and the card doesn't go over 70C on load with the fan on minimum, oc'd to 500/500.

My case:

Two 120mm fans in the side added (Soon to be replaced by a net, as they look horrid, and my Gemin can suck air in by itself), blue LEDs from an NZXT case placed in the front, all fan holes enlarged from 60 to 80mm (Soon to be 120mm), and a fan added in the 5.25" slots (After the pic was taken)

My Socket A heatsink:

I got my hands on some decent hardware for a decent price (Barton 2600+, 512MB DDR333 and a 200GB HD for a total of 25€), so I decided to install the stuff in my secondary gaming rig, to make it more BF2-capable for two-man LANs. The CPU being a Barton, I oc'd it quite a lot (1900MHz to 2400MHz), pushing the limits of the low-CFM 80mm fan on the heatsink, making the CPU idle at 58 and run at 70+ under load, so I dug up my half-dead Freezer7Pro fan and screwed it onto the heatsink. Took 18C off my idle temp and 14 off my load temp.

A couple of other mods I've done that are kinda hard to show, is modding the fan controller on a couple of PSUs, one to be controlled by my fan controller, and I upt an automatic speed controller in another one that was stuck on max.

So, post your ghetto mods.

Notice the aluminum bracket for the SI-97(Non-A), so that it would fit on my de-lidded Sempron 2600+. Also take note of the pressure over the bare core.

The AC Silencer, had the shroud and fan removed to accodomate a silent 70mm fan instead.

I have had better "ghetto" mods in the past, and many of them used Pringle's Cans.

OO OOO OO can i show off ghetto mods!

OK up first we have probably my most ghetto mod...

HD rubber mounted (using thick mouse pad squares and double sided stickey tape) hd cooling (old 478 heatsink, put some white generic TIM and put it on there) and HD silencing (carpet padding) ALL IN ONE!!!!

Next we have my good ole 6600gt AGP... i loved the thing i volt modded it and had it ocd 24/7 @ 626/1272 (not pictured is the backplate i made do to the card bending)

Next up is the wifi card that was "propritary" to asus motherboards... turns out its USB and 3.3v

Next is a 10gb maxtor hd that i put an acrylic top on... still works to this day

This is from Back in the day when i ust to use an old 10gb laptop hd as my servers main drive.... complete with super quality rubber band suspension, and little mouse pad feet in case of a fall

Back to modding gfx cards.... 8800gts 640 with a 92mm fan on it....

I have done more ghetto stuff but these are the better ones...

The screws that shipped with this heatsink would not allow me to attach a fan that was more than 25mm thick. My solution was to make my own thumbscrews out of #8/32 threaded rod. I used knurled nuts as the handles with ordinary hex nuts tightened against them so that the whole thing turns as one piece. I broke off a few fins at each corner to make it easier to insert the screws.

I have one of those old P3 socket 423 fans as well. I was thinking about using it to actively cool my memory. That fan is pretty powerful and surprisingly quiet for its size.

Did another little mod tonight. Took about a total of 20 minutes

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, 1337 PSUs inc!

I got tired of the super-loud 80mm PSU fan in my secondary rig, and taking an 120mm cover from another PSU wouldn't work, as the PSU internal heatsinks aren't designed to have a fan ontop, outside wouldn't work as it's about 15mm from the PSU to the mobo. However, just putting a fan on, without any cover would fit, so I made this... Contraption. It doesn't have to look good, as long as it works, which it does. The case is 100% sealed off, anyhow.

OK I have to ask, how does the hard drive still work after replacing the cover? Don't microscopic particles ruin the platter as soon as its exposed to air or is that just a myth? Regardless, it looks great.
