Vaio drivers

I recently got tired of installing windows with the oem sony vaio restore disks.
I had to format my hdd and I decided to install xp with another retail version of xp.
Just about everything in the install of the vaio setup I end up removing anyways cause it is ALL CRAP. I figured why mess up the registry etc and just install clean.
It is working good, I got the drivers for the onboard internet, got vid card drivers, soundcard drivers all installed and everything seems to work good except at least 1 thing I have found so far.
The standby mode doesn't work like it used to, I had it set to standby after awhile of no use and it would power down and save info to ram. Now it goes into standby but it does not power down all the way. The fans remain running but the hdd powers down.
It worked before with the vaio install, how can I make it work with the retail xp install?
I did copy all the drivers from the vaio disc to the desktop just incase I need to use any of them.
Is it a driver I dont have that is on the vaio disk and not on the retail copy?
If it is how do I install those drivers?
Or am I just screwed? lol

also this machine has a oem bios and there is no settings to control the s3/standby in the bios. Barely any controls to do ANYTHING in there.

ps sorry for rambling a bit its been a long two days

Thanks for the link, I got my chipset drivers from there. I don't really need anything else from there
I didnt see anything that would affect standby though

maybe you need to set something in windows (power management) in the control panel.

You are looking for hibernation i guess. Give me your model number, they usually have the power management application somewhere on their driver page.

You can enable hibernation in power management as well.

hibernation isn't really what I need, It isn't what I used before I used standby.
I understand the difference of the two I just dont understand how it (standby) can be different for one version of xp than the other.
I looked and they have nothin on power management on the list of drivers or updates page.
They have a bios update but that has already been applied to the system.

If you can find something the model number is pcv-rs430g

Well I guess I cannot have anything be set to wake up the system from standby, As long as the keyboard and mouse are set to not wake the machine it will power down completely and re-wake when I push the power button and be on the desktop in seconds.
Seems that will do for me. Thanks for all the help

Sorry just spend 10 min looking for it. Does it come with any cds or anything that you can pop in and explore?

But when it loads everything that was in the ram to the hard drive that is standby my friend. Sony software could call it Stand by but im pretty sure its Hibernation. Go enable it and try it

Its not hibernation. I know cause when it goes into hibernation it says it and then powers down. Standby simply states that its going into standby and powers down.
Hibernation takes twice as long and I have enabled them both and tested them out thoroughly. Hibernation isn't even enabled in the options and there is no hibernation file on my hdd.

It IS standby and it IS working properly now.
If ya still don't believe me its not hibernation I guess I could make a video for ya.
