Hazaro's nifty little E7200 (65nm Comparison + OC and pictures)

This thing is awesome. Even on my Asus P5B. Normal P5B. P965. Screw your fancy chipsets and fancy options and whatnot.

So far I have compared a few things to my E6600, and that is going off to a dedicated folder, so no more testing for that

That said...
Feel free to shoot what else you want to see.

Remember, I'm trying NOT to kill this chip OR my motherboard.

Specs are in sig (Besides E6600 of course)

Chip: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

Pack Date: 4/24/2008
Batch: Q811A261 (SLAVN)
Stepping: M0
Vid ID: 1.0375V
Wafer(1st line): 3580716
Wafer(2nd line): 7M2039

Comparison E6600 vs. E7200(Post #2): (Red and green text!)

- 65nm 4MB cache vs. 45nm 3MB cache
- 400 x 9 = 3.6Ghz

Preliminary overclocking (Post #3)
(Pictures!)

- 1.104V OC (Load) is amazing imo for 1M Pi completion. Don't know where the - E8xxx series is on this.
- Went for 1M stable Pi Runs.
- Hit 4Ghz for the first time doing mundane things
- Watch it fail on 13/20 for SPi

Overclocking Testing (Post #4)

- Corsair 4GB testing
- Max SPi testing* (Pretty RAM and Cache Dependant)
- Max 3D06 testing*
- Max clock testing*
- Max 1.30V load
- Max 1.35V load
- Max 1.40V load
- Maybe Max FSB if my RAM can handle it

The lowered 3MB cache compared to the 4MB of the E6600 works against the E7200, but the better clock performance outweighs the lowered cache.

Graphs were made from things I mostly use my computer for.

E7200 / E6600

1GB: 48s / 48s
Video Compression: 2:37 / 2:43
1M: 14.578 / 14.656
4M: 1m 22.406 / 1m 23.851
150MB Conversion: 3:18 / 3:22

Games and settings:

Track Mania Nations: Forever : 1600x1200 8xAA 16xAF (Max Settings)
Crysis: 1600x1200 custom very high settings, 0xAA, 0xAF (Some on plants in config)
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2: 1600x1200 Max Settings

TM: 84 / 82 fps
TM-X: 65 / 63 fps
Crysis: 31 / 31 fps
R6V2: 84 / 84 fps

Changed my BIOS settings before swapping over CPU's. 1.25V was the lowest.

.
*
*
Setting as they are now are:
- 1.300V Bios (1.296V load)
- 1.200V VTT / FSB Termination Voltage
- 1.55V NB
- 1.60V SB
- 1.215V ICH

.

.
.

.
.

.
.

.
.

.
.

Still no go under 1.3V for a 4Ghz Pi run. Might push the NB/VTT a bit more.
Getting the chip to from 3.8 to 4.0 took more volts than I would of liked. May end up running it at 3.8Ghz. (Probably not)

Not too happy with these, not even 1000MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.25V (Just crashes in 20s for memtest)
Currently running 950MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.25V

MOTHERBOARD VOLT MOD COMPLETE! (Pencil )

Before: 1.3125V BIOS ---> 1.264V idle ---> 1.220V load
After: 1.3125V BIOS ---> 1.296V idle ---> 1.304V load

Is 1.95V high enough for you ? LINK

BTW really good results from this proc, might pick up one as well, want to see how the E3000 will fare first.

And his VTT is only 1.45V

I'm impressed too. I'm glad the cache has no affect on games or performance compared to my E6600.

450FSB is the most I've pushed so far, but I don't know how much more my cheapo sticks can put out.

I need it for school work and AP.

That might not stop me though.

If I kill this you need to put together some sort of charity fund for me

Maybe a Quad so I can be a cheater too.

Nice run at 4 Ghz with only 1.272 volts....your SB voltage is way too high ?!, rather bump the NB a bit more.

Also great data on gaming and the effect of cache, nice work Hazaro

Quite an upgrade. Nice work so far.

These P5B-Ds eat up the 45nm chips. Do you have a C2 revision board? It should tell you on the motherboard tab in CPU-Z.

EDIT: I see you have a vanilla P5B. Hopefully it'll work just as well. My P5B-E kept my 24/7 settings from my Deluxe. I'd imagine they are all built pretty much the same.

Yup, glad the cache doesn't effect anything

Well I wasn't sure about running the NB at the next highest step (1.70V from 1.55V)
It's the stock NB with a 120mm next to it. That good enough?

I also forget why my SB is that high. Maybe I should lower it.

dude thanks for the info. i been thinking bout this over a q6600 for folding 24/7 to replace the e2180.
price for price and say 3.3-3.6 for a q6600 and 4.0Ghz for a e7200 how do u think they would match up?

folding is one of those apps that number of cores even 200-400mhz slower is better then a faster dually.

but man if a e3000 can hit 4ghz for a 1/3 of the price of a q6600 i would look like a bad ass. thats some dick cheap folding.
even a e7200 at 135.00 thats some dick cheap folding. and running that mother up to 4ghz would own!
man I just dont know what to do.

Also Hazaro dude thanks so much for posting this up. i will keep checking to see what your up to with this new chip. what kind of ppd do u get at say 3.8 or 3.6?

Well it's kind of long, I'll post a shortened version there.

I'll unfortunately be holding off a whole week to clock this thing because of AP exams.

Well, I went and bought one for my new computer. Glad you posted this on here, I hadn't even heard of this processor. But from what I've seen on the net, it should be a fun OC.

Nice report out on the 7200. I'm starting my next build and pretty sure I'm going with this chip. Wanted 45nm, looks to be easy to overclock with the high multiplier, and a very good price especially compared to the 45nm quads. Was concerned about the low cache, but your and other reports all agree it does not make that much difference. I can wait an extra second or so for an application to complete.

thats not necessary bro....and its a very good OC on a budget Cpu
Another good read on cache: http://translate.google.com/translat...ial%26hs%3DpSu

No difference in gaming when pushing your GPU on 1600x1050 and max settings. This is 3MB vs 6MB 45nm.

However, cache does make a noticeable difference on SPI runs, that is one of the downsides, but this chip does everything else right

I'm still waiting on new pressure paper so I can remount my TRUE (And of course push this MUCH farther)

?? Just stated that his OC wasnt bad for a pretty cheap CPU, but comparing superpi times with a similar clock speed, his is almost 3 secs behind that of my E8500 @ 4ghz, maybe my higher FSB works better for superpi.
