Need Help With An Upgrade

Ok, don't laugh, but I'm upgrading from a 5200...lol...


I want to get an 8800 GTS, but I really don't know which one is better for the price.

I'm on a budget, so my options seem so limited, but these are the ones I was looking at:

MSI NX8800GTS 320M OC GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

ECS N8800GTS-512MX GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Those three were the ones I was looking at to get... Unless someone else has a better recommendation.

Which is better for the price? Do I really need 512MB over 320MB? What would be the difference?

Under no cercumstances should you get the older 320 or 640mb versions of the 8800GTS. Period. The new 8800GTS 512 is the newer G92 designs and has more, WAY more horsepower. It is by far the better choice hands down.

If you are on a tight budget and can't afford the 8800GTS in the 512 flavor, than get the 8800GT 512. It is almost as good as the GTS and is a little cheaper. Also, if you can buy a "vanilla" or stock 600mhz core clocked card, it will be cheaper and you can oc the card yourself (possible to a higher max clock than the factory oc'd cards).

I would get an evga GT if you're worried about cost. I run very high res and I have no complaints with the GT, wasn't worth the $40 more at the time for the GTS.

Wait for an 8800GTS-512 to go on sale AR for $200 or less...then it's worth it IMO.

The GT has 112SP's, and the GTS has 128SP's. The GTS also has better power circuitry, higher vGPU, and will clock higher.

My link to the GTS on newegg is actually $230 after rebate, so I would go with that. Waiting for it to drop below $200 might not be good. I would rather game now than wait for later.
