8800GTS 512mb Overclocking

I'm Currently overclocking my 8800GTS, i'm upto 745mhzCore, and i've not seen any hangups or snow or anything to say its straining, currently at 62°.

Up from 678mhz to 745mhz

Shall I keep going?

Also, anyone else whos overclocked this card, know what they've reached without going over 70°?

Core Clock - 775
Shader Clock - 1800
Memory clock - 2000?

my Memory clock in RivaTuner can only go up to 1460, is there something different with yours?

Nope, nothing different. Your ram goes up to 1460 so double that= 2920

If you notice when you raise the ram in Riva tuner, the correct speed will be shown in the box on your left.

I have the GT and my speeds are:

Core = 700
Shader = 1750
Memory = 2000

Temps: Idle= 34c Loaded =45-47c

Nope, the RAM is DDR (double data rate), divide his by 2 and you get 1000. That is what he has set in RivaTuner.

Edit: *shakes fist at Nebulous*

and i just played through HL2 Lost Coast, max settings AA and all the bells and whistles. not a problem throughout, no artifacts.

Came out, checked temp, 62°.

Shall i keep bumping em up?

On stock volts I was able to do 775/1960/2000. I had the bad memory, so I couldn't do much more than that

I would suggest unlinking the core/shader clocks so that you can find the absolute maximum for each

they are unlinked, i just went for rounded numbers to make it easier to keep track of

i couldn't find a pen and paper to write down the values so i had to remember them :P

You should write the settings down and test. Keep bumping them up by 5's and test each time until you hit it's limit. Once you get to that point, then back off 5 which will be it's sweet spot.

Keep your eyes on those temps.

I did'nt go for the xtreme oc on my card, I just wanted a tad performance increase which is where I'm @ now with perfect temps I might fiddle with it some more sometime.

I would suggest stress testing with THIS utility. It will bring your temps higher than gaming EVER will, it is just crazy. Oh, and it is fun to watch

I get higher temps with it, so yes. Don't forget to run it in stability mode

Just use the furry doughnut test in furmark. I've gotten mine to top out using only stock voltage.

815Mhz core
1013Mhz ram (2026 effective)
2037Mhz shader

Maxes out at 65C with fan at max 70% Any higher fan speed is just extra noise.

If I feel comfortable with volt mod and I get a decent cooler I may try for better clock speed.

with the settings at

800
1950
2332

after about 25 mins in furmark. it got to 72°.

but as thideras said, furmark will get me higher temps than gaming ever should. so is it safe with that?

EDIT: Is there a better way to cool the GPU without watercooling? cos you can't like fit a new fan right lol?

in the time it took me to write this, it dropped from 72° to 55°.

Those are really good temps!

Unless you are volt modding the card, you are not going to get any higher speeds. I found this out with the first HR-03 GT that I got. I had lower temps, slightly louder fan, less slots (its a big cooler) and the exact same speeds. When I volt modded the card, I had to move to an aftermarket cooler.

The stock cooler on the GTS is actually really good.

i'll keep it at that then, i'm gonna be buying SLI 9900GTX in the summer, and going to rip by bank account apart for some hardcore watercooling thereafter.

with a good watercooling system, reckon i could get the GPU Core to 1000 on a 9900GTX? :P
