Remove Pentium 3 heatsink and get it back?

Remove Pentium 3 heatsink and get it back?


Is it possible? I would like to remove it temporarly for cleaning and than put it back on.

Is it slot or socket? If it's a slot than it should have four pins that pass through little holes with a retention clip on the back... as long as your not super man and break it... then yes it will go back on. For a socket I believe they have lever lookin things that hold it down... same goes for this... just don't break anything. And you might want to take a trip to radio shack and get some thermal paste (just ask the clerk) and apply a VERY small amount to the processor then put the heatsink back on

Yeah, i saw the same guide but i'm not so sure. Thing is there is pretty much dirt inside and it could be good for cpu. I dont know, i'll have to think about it.

The slot aren't very reliable.

Since I took mine off and when you pop it out it has to be 100% clean to be able to put back on and I think its kind of tricky.

There's no point into taking it off really they run fine by themselves how they are unless there's no good heat transfer whats so ever. Mine ran 2 years without changing the thermal paste or anything.
