Yeah basically a TEC attached to a heat pipe system to help draw off the heat...

TEC based cooling works by having a TEC (thermo-electric cooler) plate which creates a cold surface on one side by applying current and then moves heat to the opposite side. The reality is that most TEC units produce a fair amount of heat and exponentially higher the more they cool. This will then require more resources to get rid of that heat. They also draw a lot of wattage and usually require thier own power supply. I do not know much about this product specifically, however I do know that it is a TEC design. The other thing to consider is the fact that you most likely will have to insulate everything that comes in contact with that unit due to possibility of condensation if it gets below ambient temps. If you go to that much effort, you might as well be phase change cooling. I would personally stay away from it, thats just my .02 cents. I hope this helps a little.

Look here for further info regarding TEC's.

It looks like this device tries to get around the condensation issue by not running the TEC all the time, which is pretty cool. If it can hover at just above ambient, and do so with precision, it would be worth the $ and more.

There's confusion here...........
1.)You seeem to think you've discovered something new. Peltier coolers have been used by overclockers for 10+ years. There were tecs marketed for slot1 and slotA CPUs.

2.) Running just above ambient temps isn't a proper goal. Running with the maximum Vcore is. Most high end watercooling will allow running at the highest Vcore a MOBO will supply.

3.) the time and effort to get a tec up and running (just below ambient) would be better spent on upgrading your CPU.

This unit obviously wasn't designed to be your father's TEC, which should be okay since things DO change over time, and last I heard there are still full-blown TECs available for purchase. As far as keeping a CPU just above ambient, why is that such a problem? The supposition in all of this is that we MUST all be running computers with the same goal in mind, and that's to be just what billb wants us to be.

There's no confusion here, at least not on my part.

I to share your vision of the present from the time of Ding-Dong School, polio, and dial phones. A box with moving pictures on it's screen..right in your living room, whoda thunk!

Right now?
Wake up in the morning.... again.
Drink a lot of good, strong coffee ...and Scotch.
Set a world record ...with a PIII on phase.

I'll leave the records to those who are so inclined. Maybe after retirement...
