Need a good program for making images of current install of win xp

Hi guys. I'm looking for a program that can make an image of a fresh install of XP so if something happens in the future, i can just use that to recover with it. Any good programs out there? I prefer freeware, but i'm also willing to pay for shareware. Thanks!

DriveImageXML is easy and reliable freeware, use it with a BartPE CD for re-imaging without an OS installed. The only downside is I had problems when trying to restore a RAID0 array image, the thing says it's not supposed to work with RAID arrays but my BartPE disk had the drivers and I'd seen a post or two by people saying it worked but I could not get it to. It would restore the image but getting the drives to be boot drives just gave me a black screen after POST.

Thanks. I don't get how to burn the files it made after i made the backup though. I thought it would make an ISO image file or something that i could burn with Imgburn or something. eh?

Like MadMan007 suggested, you'll need to create a BartPE CD/DVD using the DriveImage XML V1.21 plug-in...

http://www.runtime.org/peb.htm

You would then boot to the newly created BartPE CD/DVD, then opening DI XML from within the Preinstallation Environment. You could then restore the image you created previously, from within the Windows GUI. Here's a DriveImage tutorial focusing on BartPE and automation...

... and also:

Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD

acronis

I understand that you would prefer freeware or shareware, but if you would be willing to try a commercial product, I would recommend Acronis True Image, available as a 15 day free trial.

PartImage or PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost) will make an image of a drive for you like Norton Ghost. It supports many features and can do network boots or record the image to another HD or a DVD. Check it out. Its open source too.

DriveImage works fine with Intel Matrix Raid & Bart's PE

I've done a lot of formatting and restoring and never once had a problem...
