Q6600 Is a No Go! (not literally)

Hi, so i bought my self a Q6600 GO assuming the best, little did i know i was about to become a angry angry man. I cant OC past 2.7 Ghz.

C1E = turned off
EIST speedstep = turned off
Max CPUID value limit= turned off
Vanderpool/VT = (cant turn off if i do system wont turn on just beeps all day long)

9 multiX 300 fsb = 2.7ghz @1.25 Cv (Arctic freezer 7 pro)
Ram is @ 800 @ 1.9v and 5-5-5-18 (default timings)
divider is set at 3:2 (linked) (the only working setup thus far)

Iv'e tried every tweaking option possible...even swapping the memory out but sill no luck. it it either post screens or gets up to the windows loading bar but then resets:

Below are some test setups i tried:

8 X 400 = 3.2Ghz @ (ranged from 1.3 - 1.5 vc)
Ram at sync divider 800 @ (default timings)
Nb/Ht volt @ ranged from (0.25-0.35)
FSB volt @ ranged from (0.25-0.35)
SB volt @ ranged from (0.2 - 0.3)
VCC12_DL volts @ ranged from (0.1 - 0.2)

ive also tried auto dividers and unlinked for memory as well as different timings/volts and less memory frequency..

the mentioned above is the only setup iv had close to working past 2.7 but still fails as it stops at the windows loading bar

I beg u please can someone help me!

Yep. Not the best board for quads.

I know you mentioned having tried different RAM timings, Vdimm , and different sticks... but have you tried running Memtest?

Memtest86+ 2.01
http://www.memtest.org/

... and / or have you tried upping the Vdimm to at least 2.0-2.1V? Leave all other voltages besides the Vcore at default (including vNB (MCH), vSB, etc.)... up the Vcore to 1.3V. Leave the four primary RAM timings at 5-5-5-15-2T, w/ all other RAM sub-timings on AUTO.

well, i would suggjest a 9 times mutiplyer.

heres what i did on my p5k premium
and dont diss the cpu its ur mobo that sucks, the cpu is a beast!!!!!!

o get coretemp and prime 95

heres part of a guide on how to oc the q6600 on the p5k, this is the cpu part...

CPU Ratio Control – This just lets you choose the Multi, you can also do this on the main Jumperfree BIOS settings page.

C1E Support – Disable this, it just isn't needed when overclocking.

Max CPUID Limit – Disable this, its for older P4 CPUs with Hyperthreading, and older operating systems.

Vanderpool Technology – Disable this, unless you specifically need it, find out if you do, by going here...
http://www.intel.com/technology/virt...tion/index.htm

CPU TM Function – Disable this. I can find no use for this with C2D, apparently it was to throttle older P4 Prescott CPUs. I have always disabled it on every C2D board with no problems whatsoever.

Execute Disable Bit – I generally disable this, but it is up to you. If you experience instability with it enabled, try disabling it. You can find out more here.

PECI – I usually disable this. I have tested this with several CPUs and have been unable to find any use for it. Enabled/Disabled doesn't affect my temps in any way, and no throttling occurs. If anyone knows any different, please let me know.

Intel ® SpeedStep (TM) Tech – Disable this, generally, it doesn't play nicely with overclocking.

Go get yourself a 680i. It will clock a quad pretty darn high without breaking the bank. I bought mine for $150.00 and they're even cheaper now. I easilly got my quad to a stable 400x9=3.6GHz. That is of course if you want to stay with Nvidia. If you're gonna stay with 1 8800GT, I would think about a p35 chipset like the IP35Pro or a nice P5K like nsg has. They are very cheap right now and will most likely be able to get your fsb up a bit farther than a 680i.
It definitely ain't the quad dude, sometimes people just don't have all the parts to OC effectively, and that board isn't the best candidate for pumping up a quad.

If you want to play around with it a bit, my asus 650i (p5n-e) wouldnt go past 2.7ish ghz for the life of me, with a dual or a quad. I upgraded the northbridge cooling and did the 1333 default mod, stickied here, and i now have my quad at 3.00ghz stock voltage. But thats all this board is good for, 1360-1370 loses prime stability even though my chip will post up to 3.6 at stock voltage. You just need to make sure your board has bios support for default 1333 chips.

A pad mod might help you. This sounds like a motherboard issue, not a CPU one. Would that be an option for you?

Try dropping the multi to the lowest possible and see what max FSB you can achieve. Then you will know if it is the motherboard or CPU

i apologize for my ignorance but what is a Pad mod?

also yea ive tried teh clock multiplier right down to 6 which is the minimus possible and worked my fsb up from there but still no luck i might try it again tho might be just a FSB hole dunno..?

Did you ever try using the 9x multiplier with a 1:1 divider? There are too many possible causes of instability when you're pushing the FSB, memory, and CPU at the same time. Try 9x350 with the 1:1 divider (should put the RAM at 700 MHz) and see how it goes.
