NVIDIA GTX 280 tri SLI Benches-Maxed Crysis @ 60FPS

Whoo! Got Crysis benchmark tool working. We only ran a few loops but it's pretty easy to see that our test system is no match for these three cards.

Pictures Below.

Test platform:
Intel Core 2 Extreme Qx9770 @ 4.4Ghz
iBuyPower IBP-Z001 Liquid Cooler
EVGA 790i Ultra Motherboard
Mushkin XP3-144000 1760Mhz 7-6-5-15
Lots of fans

-Edit- pushed the GTX 280s a tiny bit further, reposted score
EVGA GTX 280 Triple SLI @ 684/1525/1289mhz Core/Shader/Memory
3dMark Vantage: 22782
3dMark06 -Vista-: 19529

EVGA GTX 280 Triple SLI-Stock Timings
3dMark Vantage: 21273

EVGA 9800GX2 SSC Quad SLI @ 725/1114mhz Core/Memory
3dMark Vantage: 18113
3dMark06 -Vista-: 19870

Ok, we weren't nearly as thorough on day 2 of testing. We had to return the 9800GX2 SSCs before we could test them at stock speeds. But, as you can see, GTX 280 triple SLI at stock speeds destroys even an overclocked 9800GX2 Quad SLI setup.

We clocked the CPU to 4.0Ghz (to save it from an early death, lol) and ran World in Conflict in benchmark mode at four resolutions: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1200x1600 with 16xAF and 16xCSAA but... well... we'll let you interpret the results:

World in Conflict
Average FPS in 'Very High' settings and 16xAF and 16xCSAA
63 FPS @ 800x600
64 FPS @ 1024x768
63 FPS @ 1280x1024
63 FPS @ 1600x1200

Crysis

60.4 FPS @ 1280x1024 no AA
60.7 FPS @ 1600x1200 no AA

58.4 @ 1280x1024 16xQ AA
59.0 @ 1600x1200 16xQ AA

Tell me what you guys think/want to see us do with these setups :)

The fan setup is pretty...uh...exotic heh

Any "specific" reason you have a fire extinguisher handy? :)

Yeah.... well NVIDIA is notorious for tailoring their drivers to outperform on 3DMark. I wouldnt be surprised if the 9800GX2 is still the dominating card

Ironic you would say that, considering ATI 2900XT had better results in 3d06 than the 8800GTX, despite getting destroyed in every game tested.

The truth is Nvidia could care less about 3dmark scores. They only care about gaming performance.

I'm no ATI-hater, but for the last 1.5 years, the consensus has been that ATI will win in 3dmark, no questions asked, for every side by side comparison. People have even stated what you said, but in accusation of ATI, claiming that ATI tailors drivers toward 3dmark performance.

For the last year and a half, Over all (taking into account all 3D Marks) Nvidia has been on top.
This has nothing to do with drivers.
The 8800 cards were that much faster than anything ATI put out (for the most part)
Over that time, where ATI have looked good is with multiple card setup (this could be a driver issue for Nvidia) 2900XT's in 3D05 and 3870 X2's in 3D03, 05 & 06

As of this post.
In Single Card tests, this is who is top dog
3D01 Nvidia
3D03 Nvidia
3D05 Nvidia
3D06 Nvidia

Multiple Card
3D01 Nvidia
3D03 ATI
3D05 ATI
3D06 ATI

Sorry for the OT posts iBP_Rickochet

whats with the cpu cooler? BA setup.

I'm using an iBuyPower IBP-Z001 Liquid Cooler with a Scythe Ultra Kaze attached to the backside of it in exhaust mode. You should see it available on sites such as newegg soon. This might sound like a self-promoting plug, but it's the best cooler I've tested here at iBuyPower. Believe me, if I had a better cooler, I'd be using it in this setup so I could overclock more.

Wow! Awesome setup, these 280 GTX cars might not be great in games but they are benching beasts!

I wouldn't say they aren't great in games... check out the World in Conflict benchmark results :) Can you say CPU bottleneck?

I've also made a small update to the results. Pretty disappointing (and busy) day of testing with testing issues and scrambling to produce HD 4850 benchmarks for the impending launch.

Wow, the AA hardly make a difference! What can this show?

Crysis

60.4 FPS @ 1280x1024 no AA
60.7 FPS @ 1600x1200 no AA

58.4 @ 1280x1024 16xQ AA
59.0 @ 1600x1200 16xQ AA
