Network credentials

Here's the deal, i got a wd network drive, i've set up different permissions for different folders. i have 1 folder that i set up as read only for public users and then i setup a username for it to have full access. now when i want to write in the folder it tells me access denied until i got into a folder that has no public acess and then it prompts me for username and pass. after that i can go into the other folder and have full access. Is there a way i can choose which credentials i can use on the public folder without having to go to the folder that has no public access? (if that makes any sense)

Yes.

You should map a network drive from my computer to the drive, then select the link/button for login as different user, and supply the credentials for the account you gave full access to, then connect.

Let me know if that helps.

THAT WORKED

Thanks man, I can't believe I never saw that when mapping a drive. Now I can use this trick at work too. Instead of logging off to log in as local admin then browse the network and be prompted for my credentials, I can just map a location I need with my info. Awesome!

Thanks again.

No problem, glad that helped.

In a similar way, you can supply different credentials to use by using the "Run As" command when you right click on an icon. For example, I have 2 user accounts at work, each with different rights. I login as my regular user account everyday, but if I need to administer rights on certain server shares, I'll do a "Run As" with Xplorer Lite, and supply my admin credentials. Then I can access the servers I need, and Xplorer Lite uses the credentials it was run with and has those rights, not the ones from the account I logged into the PC with.
