Software to retrieve drivers from pc?

hey guys Im fixing a friends PC and i need to get the drivers off his machine...He lost the disk like everyone does. Im wondering if there is some software i can download and install to basically extract the drivers from the machine and i can reload his OS for him and put the backups back on etc.

Does this software available?

best regards,
eddy

I'd suggest downloading the drivers from the internet. Just reinstall windows, go in device manager and see what's not working, and google the nomenclature to find the drivers. If the device shows up as "Unknown device", you can double-click it and go into the details tab, then select Hardware Ids and google the Vendor/Device numbers. For example the hardware Id PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0611 is an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.

You can view the locations of all a devices drivers by clicking the Driver Details button, on the Driver tab. However, you'll still need an inf file, or a driver installer app for that hardware, to install the hardware. Unfortunately, you cannot just copy these files over and have working hardware.

ok so i reinstalled win 2000 on his machine but windows didnt pickup any of the drivers. So i double clicked on the hardware (ethernet adapter) and i didnt see any IDs or anything that could identify the hardware. Any suggestions? Other then opening the machine and checking each piece of hardware lol (hes not using onboard ethernet)

If this is a system (like from Dell/HP) that he bought preassembled, go to their site and download it from another computer.

If this was built, find out what hardware it has and go the manufacturer's site.

MB: Asus CUV4X-E
Sound: Created SB Live! (model "SB006 or SB0060"
Ethernet: D-link "DFE-538TX Rev D"
Video: "Matrox G35+:

Pretty sure i can get the video card does anyone know what DL's i need for the SB and D-link ? they didnt have a noticeable model or anything so i just took the numbers down off the back that looked close enough to model numbers.

Oh God not the CUV4X... Thats a P3 board with Via chipset

You need hyperion 4 in 1 drivers

I upgraded to that board for my NLE machine and it caused me nothing but grief... The makers of my NLE card (Electronic-Design) even helped out but I had to change mobo in the end to the vastly superior CUBX-E.

Good luck !!

You need to find the model for each one then google it, there are many places that will have it available for download.

I've used driver genius to gather the needed drivers b4 a fresh install, then slipstreamed them into a sp2 install disc using nlite. Very handy for sata controllers or lan or wifi drivers.

Easier route (*buntu)
