Not having a parent company might have something to do with it?

Couldn't you just add THAT to your "blocked" list, too?

I ran into something similar to that on another site. The funny thing is, I was able to view one page, but as soon as I clicked on a link to another, that message would appear.

+1 There is no reason whatsoever to have to deal with that nonsense. Nor should one need to add something to a block list to not have to deal with it.

Disable javascript, use something besides AdBlockPlus, change the user agent or inject your own javascript.

This is what is making it redirect:
Code:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript">

setTimeout('detect_abp()', 10000);
var isFF = (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Firefox") > -1) ? true : false;
var hasABP = false;

function detect_abp()
{
   if(isFF)
   {
     if(Components.interfaces.nsIAdblockPlus != undefined)
    {
       hasABP = true;
    }
    else
    {
      var AbpImage = document.createElement("IMG");
      AbpImage.id = 'abp_detector';
      AbpImage.src = '/textlink-ads.jpg';
        AbpImage.style.width = '0px';
      AbpImage.style.height = '0px';
      AbpImage.style.top = '-1000px';
      AbpImage.style.left = '-1000px';
      document.body.appendChild(AbpImage);
      hasABP = (document.getElementById('abp_detector').style.display == 'none');

         var e = document.getElementsByTagName("iframe");
        for (var i = 0; i < e.length; i++)
        {
           if(e[i].clientHeight == 0)
            {
                hasABP = true;
            }
        }
          if(hasABP == true)
          {
           history.go(1);
            location = "http://www.tweaktown.com/supportus.html";
          window.location(location);
         }
    }
  }
}
</script>

Must resist urge to sit on Tweaktown and play with ADP to avoid redirects

The pertinent part of that script. It's checking the area of the page reserved for the ads. If it's been blocked, it has a height of 0, and so it goes on it's merry way.

Ugh. Wonder if there's a global way to kill these scripts - this isn't the first site I ran into where I had to go javascript hunting...

You could just use REGULAR Adblock... or any of the copycat programs.

Use the Add-On "User Agent Switcher" and change the user agent to opera or anything but firefox and go on your merry way.

Is it really that much of an annoyance for them to have their ads? I figure you're using them and they're using you, right?

I could care less about their ads.. It was them redirecting to a warning page every 10 seconds that was annoying..

Edit: Thanks Tc3, agent switcher helps

I think its more of an annoyance to turn off the ad blocker every time you wanted to visit that site. If you have the ad blocker it actually forces you to another page after a certain time.

PS. we have the same laptop!

It depends on the ads. I remember in the early days of myspace, they would take ads from whoever they could get them. There were some annoying flash ads with cockroaches on them at some point...

...then there were these porno ads HERE at some point as well.

I really miss the news ticker that used to be on the right column here... It never worked right, but it was much cooler than the ads that replaced them.

I would go COMPLETELY off the wall if a site that I visited regularly did this stupid redirect crap every ten seconds.

Then again, I wouldn't have gone so far as to make a post about it. I would've simply taken the opportunity to tell the people there that I didn't like what I REALLY thought of them, and then never went back.

...always take the high road.

Can't the Adblocker be set to insert a blank image the same size as the ad image? It'd still be the same but preserve the web page's formatting as some pages tended to look sloppy when ads are removed.
