Lately whenever I use Nero Recode to shrink down some movies, I get a hard shutdown. It didn't appear to be cpu related as the temp I saw, when overclocked, was 51C according to Core Temp. This is much higher than usual but then I live in an unairconditioned house and the outside temps have been in the 90s.
I felt around and the NB was getting pretty freaking hot so I put a little fan on it. Much better. Still getting hard shutdown when video encoding and playing cpu intensive games (Civ4).
So then I figure my little CoolerMaster psu is getting long in the tooth and the heat's probably knocking it out when under full load. This made sense because I was running 4 HDs, 2 in RAID which is mobo based, and one of them using a SATA add-on card to work. Plus I have a wireless card, my video card, all my fan headers being used, and running an oc which drew more power than normal. So I buy the psu in my sig, which I've read is a rebranded Fortron. Still get hard shutdown. During the hottest part of the day I've had shutdown while browsing the internet and listening to music. Not just browsing, it seems the addition of music pushed my computer over the edge.
So I get desperate and throw all my setting back to stock, and unplug any fans that seem, in the least, to be extraneous. My sig has been adjusted to show my gear at stock. Same hard shutdown. Temps in this condition are around 41C at load, the video card shows 34C via ATITool.
When I was oc'd I had the cpu running at a modest 2.6 @ 1.425v. This from a chip I used to run at 3GHz no problem though it was water cooled. In any case I've had this box at its more modest setting for months with no problems. Until it got hot, that is.
I'm starting to think its the mobo. It had been running full bore (300+ fsb)for at least 18 mos. if not longer.
Sorry for the long post. What do you guys think?
