Simple Dual Core Question

I know this is a basic question but how do I know when my dual cores are both working? Someone mentioned today that they didn't think my version of XP (Home with SP2) had a dual core management routine. So am I not using both cores? How can I tell and how can I get the most out of my system? (That is, without going to Vista.)

Open up Task Manager, if you see two CPU graphs your using Dual Core.

Speedfan will also show both core's usage.

XP Home supports dual core processors, but unlike the Pro version doesn't support multiprocessors.

I guess the person talking to me got mixed up between dual processor and dual core.

Yes, I can see two cores with both the task manager and speedfan. If I do something processor intensive like Windows search, both cores are running. Thanks for the help.
