Laptop Freezing on Windows XP Splash Screen Login

When i turn my Dell Inspriron 710m laptop on, i can move my mouse and click on the picture to type in my password to login, but as soon as i press any key to type in my password it freezes. I can use the keyboard just fine In the Bios, but it just freezes here.
