Display Capped at 4 bits 800 x 600

Hey guys,

I'm probably nubbing it up pretty hard right now, but basically my goal for the day was to do a clean wipe of my system. I've had 2x 250gig HD's RAID 0 going for the last 1.5 years, and i wanted to do away with the RAID as I don't think the benefits are for me. At the same time I've also purchased 2 more gigs of memory that Fry's had on sale today (if you think this is part of the issue I'll add more detail about them).

So I threw a new 80gig HD into the mix, and am currently reloading OS / drivers / software.

So I'm at the part trying to get drivers loaded and I'm having issues with my display. Here's what I'm running:

EVGA Nvidia 8800 GTS 640mb

I've gone to Nvidia's site & downloaded the latest drivers. My issue is that for some reason I'm capped at a 4bit display, with a res of 800 x 600. In the past I've had this same rig on my 24" Gateway with a dual monitor of the 19" Acer I'm currently using to type this.

Anyone know what could be causing this new cap on my display?

TIA.

Either the display drivers did not install correctly or the monitors are set wrong. Can you see what it says for the display adapter?

My guess is the drivers. Uninstall and then clean them with DriverCleaner Pro.

Delete any drivers you downloaded and re-get them to make sure they are not corrupt.

alright, i uninstalled the driver (which actually was an improvement!, as i'm back at 32 bits, but obviously still not functioning), re-downloaded the driver: "GeForce Release v175.19" Released on 7/9/08. Upon reinstalling that driver I got the same issue; so I've uninstalled it again.

I've tried going through their archive of drivers but can't find any others compatible with GeForce 8800's.... any suggestions?

edit: In adapters it was showing up as the appropriate driver. I also switched monitors to my 24" and it has the same issue.

Thanks fellas, you're a life saver! (or in this case a computer saver since I was about to toss the damn thing out the window and surf on over to newegg on my laptop).
