Sending ctrl+alt+del over UltraVNC on Vista
Apparently, if you have UAC turned off, and requiring ctrl+alt+del turned on in Vista, UltraVNC can't send a ctrl+alt+del to the remote computer. Reading through some UltraVNC documentation, it says there is a way to get the on-screen keyboard to send this, but trying to follow their instructions doesn't work. The instruction is at the bottom of this page here: http://www.uvnc.com/vista/ I can't seem to find any other reference to how to do this with the on-screen keyboard. Any ideas of how to do this?? ![]() ![]() This is a work environment, UAC needs to stay off, and require ctrl+alt+del has to stay on. Thanks for any help.

to OP now, not being 100% on this ... but can't you setup a macro for it?? and when i think about it ... isnt there a function/setting under msconfig that forces the system to boot to the login page? Last edited by greyharte; 09-03-08 at 04:45 PM. |

Yes there is a function somewhere on the system that will force to the loggin prompt. Surely that would fix the issue, but its been so long I have no clue where its located.

Ok, I'll see if I can dig around it and find that. The other reason we would need it is to get past screensaver lockdown, and I'm not sure this will help with that, but I haven't tried it yet...

in Vmware it is Ctrl Alt Insert check VNC to see if there is a setting, you can also click a button to have VMware send the Ctrl Alt Del combo.

turn on the screen saver for 1 min and ask for password, after it reboots to windows - will go to screen saver and tadda! login window when you connect.

Well, I couldn't find anything in Msconfig or Gpedit that would let it boot automatically to the username/password prompt. I'm not sure how this would help. One of my accounts has the passworded screensaver, and you still have to send ctrl+alt+del to get to the username/password.

server 2008 you need to do the ctrl+ regular vista though should just show the User, their avatar and the password field, at least it does for me on my 2 vista buisness machines i have, i use RealVNC all the time and just enter in my password.

It may be because we are on a domain, but when coming back from screensaver, I see this: Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to unlock this computer name (DOMAIN\user) is logged on There is a switch user button, but that takes me to a screen that says: Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on So I'm still stuck trying to find a way to use the onscreen keyboard to send a ctrl+alt+del.
