Sending ctrl+alt+del over UltraVNC on Vista

Apparently, if you have UAC turned off, and requiring ctrl+alt+del turned on in Vista, UltraVNC can't send a ctrl+alt+del to the remote computer.

Reading through some UltraVNC documentation, it says there is a way to get the on-screen keyboard to send this, but trying to follow their instructions doesn't work.

The instruction is at the bottom of this page here:
http://www.uvnc.com/vista/

I can't seem to find any other reference to how to do this with the on-screen keyboard.

Any ideas of how to do this??

This is a work environment, UAC needs to stay off, and require ctrl+alt+del has to stay on.

Thanks for any help.

why dont you just right clock on the task bar and then select taskmanager... you are trying to pull up the task manager right?

Nope, trying to bring up the login prompt after a reboot. No taskbar there, but we can bring up the on screen keyboard.

to OP
now, not being 100% on this ... but can't you setup a macro for it??

and when i think about it ... isnt there a function/setting under msconfig that forces the system to boot to the login page?

Yes there is a function somewhere on the system that will force to the loggin prompt. Surely that would fix the issue, but its been so long I have no clue where its located.

Ok, I'll see if I can dig around it and find that. The other reason we would need it is to get past screensaver lockdown, and I'm not sure this will help with that, but I haven't tried it yet...

yeah ... the more i think about it a macro wont work either ... but im almost positive that the function is in msconfig ... as for the screensaver i think the only way around that remotely is to reboot

in Vmware it is Ctrl Alt Insert

check VNC to see if there is a setting, you can also click a button to have VMware send the Ctrl Alt Del combo.

Button to send C-A-D does nothing.

Well, I couldn't find anything in Msconfig or Gpedit that would let it boot automatically to the username/password prompt.

I'm not sure how this would help. One of my accounts has the passworded screensaver, and you still have to send ctrl+alt+del to get to the username/password.

It may be because we are on a domain, but when coming back from screensaver, I see this:

Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to unlock this computer
name (DOMAIN\user) is logged on

There is a switch user button, but that takes me to a screen that says:

Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on

So I'm still stuck trying to find a way to use the onscreen keyboard to send a ctrl+alt+del.

Until this is fixed in VNC, why not use Remote Desktop?
