4870 or 9800GX2

Well after some volt modding and fiddling.. My 4870 went POOF! lol.

I now have the option of buying another 4870 or 9800GX2 for same price. PSU is capable etc. but mainly concerned about heat/power consumption. Mind throwing me something to make the decision easier?

before someone mentions the aftermarket 9800gx2 cooling issue is there a way around it so that you dont have to put up with either the horrible stock cooler or an expensive aftermarket block

pictures explain it far better then words would

Two normal water blocks will fit fine. The only reason this looks odd is that he didnt have two graphics card water blocks so he had to custom mount the top block

With that being said given present prices I would go for the 9800gx2 if you do the mod shown above, and this is from a 4870 owner. The only reason I have a 4870 is that I got it for sub $200

Unfortunately I don't like water cooling. Wonder if it would be possible to get 2 DuOrbs on the 9800GX2.

here it is with water cooling on one side and an accelero s1 on the other side. If I had a 9800gx2 I would personally put two s1 coolers on it. Im not saying that you should go with the s1, Im saying that I want a 9800gx2 and already have 2 s1 coolers to put on it

Plus the black pcb beats the red pcb on ATi's cards any day of the week.
