super quick question about powerline networks (ethernet over mains wiring)

my scenario,
i have some pc's and a phone line in the wrong place with a adsl router near the phone line..

my pc upstairs, inc my xbox, my ethernet pdu, all run simultaneously from a switch upstairs connected to a router with inbuilt switch by the phone line via the mains wiring in my house.

i have another machine which i need to add to the network. i have done this over shabby wireless that keeps dropping.

can i just buy another wall plug to go via the mains wiring, or do i need to buy 2 plugs - one for each end?

and will this cause collisions over my network?
im a bit puzzled to how it interacts..

The thing thats throwing you off conceptually is that it's not a star topology like standard Ethernet, it's a bus topology (in practice). Think of token bus (if you're familiar with it) and you'll understand.

lol never used token ring but ive read about it.

so if it turns the mains into a bus type network, then there will be collisions?
but token networks do not have collisions as i understand? :s

i think im going to go for it anyway, ive been doing some more reading and have read that the 14mbs ones have 89 or so 'channels' to send data down. and if an interferance is detected on one of these channels then it dynamically changes to another to suit.

although i have not read that if it senses another module trying to use the same channel as an already established pair then it picks another but i guess it will.
