i'm getting ready to purchase a new rig and i've pretty much settled on the hd 4870 mostly for the price/performance factor but energy conservation appeals to me and I'm concerned this card is just going to draw power constantly. does it settle down and just "do windows" or "idle" for a while or is it always drawing over 200w? I do more than just game.. my system tends to run 27/7 a lot. Thanks.

this'll probably be going on a p5q-e with a e8500 or q9550 if that makes a difference..

yea it does clock its self down to 500mhz to save power and if you have a asus board with all that power saving stuff like the p5q's then get a asus version of the 4870 because its supposed to be even more efficient or something not to sure on the details
