ive got a 3"dia. 12" long thin wall peice of copper laying here and im wondering if i made a vertical reservoir out of it would it aid in cooling down the water in my future water cooling loop? there will also be a 120.2 rad for the main cooling duties.

Technically, if the water temp in the res is warmer than the air aroudn it, then yes it will help. Realistically, it probably won't make a big difference (not a ton of surface area like you'd have in a radiator, and you'd need direct airflow across it as well.)

It would look really cool though!

copper res's rock in systems where looks are not important and you have mission critical components . but like jas said its not all that big a help UNLESS you weld lots of fins on it all around so it looks like spoked wheel from the side and then SLEEVE it and then duct a fan for just it ( did this for a passive system and while equalibrium was a bit higher it could shed the heat )
its just a lot of work for small small gains
