Vista Error, black screen, pwsave error.

I am running Windows Vista 64 bit. Not sure where exactly this problem should go so I'll stick it here.

So today I wake up and turn on my computer and then leave for a few minutes and come back and turn on the monitor. My monitor turns on, but it says, "No signal" and goes back to black. (Still turned on.)

Odd, I think. I turn it off and on and same story.

So I am I forced to turn off my computer by holding down the power button. I turn it back it, and the screen shows up. Well that's good. I say to start the computer normally. When I load up I get this error message:

"Pwsave:

The object invoked has disconnected from its clients."

Um, that's odd I think. So I turn off my computer again and restart it and this time no error pops up. However, I notice my Video Card fan is running quiet. Somehow it got reset back to 27% speed! So I bring it back up to 46% and here I am now, my computer APPARENTLY running normally...

Any idea what happened?

What kind of power supply do you have?

Hmm, your power supply is strong enough. Is your videocard seated all the way in the motherboard?? and do you have the power connectors in the card?

If they weren't, would my computer be running right now? I've been using this computer extensively for the past 2 weeks (when I put it together) and it never died in the middle of anything. Just that weird episode happened this morning.

One thing: Under System and Maintenance I have my power option set to, "High Performance" as opposed to, "Balanced" and "Power Saver". Would that do anything?

But I don't see why they would give me an option that would cause trouble; not to mention they just seem to "Energy conserving" options to make Vista "Green Friendly" or something.

It could. I think this is just what happen when your computer goes into standby and your monitor shuts itself off. All you have to do is shut the monitor off and on.

No, the computer was definitely off. I turn everything off every night. The computer was off, the monitor was off, everything.

Then I wake up this morning and turn the computer on and then leave and come back and turn the monitor and it says, "No signal" and goes back to black. But the computer was definitely turned on at that time, I could hear it running.

Hmm, try switching slots with the videocard. If you said it worked when u turned up the video cards fan the card may be overheating.

What good would that do? Not that I don't appreciate your help.

As I said, not only have I been using this computer extensively for the past 2 weeks, but I'm using right now without any problems.

The card is definitely not overheating. For one, heat up to 80 C or so is considered normal for this card; it's part of the design. Two, I'd turned up the fanspeed so it really isn't over heating. Even playing World of Warcraft, the card stays a nice 65 C.

Well you may have a bad PCI slot on the board thats why i said check the other but i doubt it and your saying that since you tunred up the fan speed it hasnt done it? Cause that would mean your card could be overheating.

I didn't say it worked when I turned up the fan speed. I said that I HAD my fan speed up prior, but after I turned off my computer by holding down the power button because I just had a black screen and couldn't turn it off proper, and then turned it back on and got the pwsave error, and then restarted and got no errors, I noticed my Video Card fan was running quieter than usual. Somehow it got reset back to 27% speed, so I brought it back up to 46% (where it was prior).

It could be a driver problem. Did you try different drivers?

No I have not. These are the latest ATI drivers, and I've had them for days without a hitch. (Not to mention I'm using the computer now without a hitch. )

I had that issue and fixed it already.... Here is what I did..

I had that same issue before, it was due to ATI drivers, I uninstalled the catalyst software and left just the video card drivers and started getting that error, I uninstalled the video card only driver and did the following to remove all driver traces.

http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_3.html or you can go into programs in Vista x64 and highlight ATI Catalyst and click change, then select remove all ATI software..

then I reinstalled and rebooted and never seen that error again...

Hope this helps..
