Well I've just upgraded my 24/7 system from my old 939 setup to a Intel system. I've always downloaded from IRC without issue. Since I've switched over my system I get nothing but weirdness. I've read about this online yet no one ever gives what appears to be a valid solution. Here's what happens:

I begin receiving a file, connection is not a problem. File downloads for about a minute then disconnects. Not only do I lose the connection but my entire internet goes down until I reboot. This only seems to be happening when I download off IRC. Someone have any idea what's happening and how do I fix this? Could it possibly be a bad LAN on my mb? I doubt it since downloading is fine elsewhere. This happens only on IRC no matter who I download from..........

Please help

Never had that problem specifically, but have you updated everything? Especially NIC/Windows? I got all kinds of internet weirdness after my last format until I installed my newest NIC driver even though an older driver had worked for fine for years.

I'm using the latest lan driver for the mb I'm using (Asus P5K).

The problem is consistent on both sp2 and sp3 of XP.

This appears to be a hardware issue. Tried the same thing on my DFI-P45 and all is good. Going to try now on my P965 Infinity and see how it goes.

I can confirm that the issue was a hardware problem. I'm not sure if it was just that particular P5K or whether it's all of them. In any case my DFI Dark P965 is running along nicely.
