I decided that tonight was a good time to update my GPU2 installs... I was running the following:

- v6.20 (not r1)

- Core v1.09

- nVidia Drivers 177.83 or 177.84

Soooooo.... I rip all that out, install the (in no particular order):

- v6.20r1 SysTray w/nVidia only viewer

- delete old v1.09 core, get the v1.13 core

- load the latest WHQL nVidia Drivers - v178.13

The Results:

- 8800GT 512MB (shaders @ 1836)

- old frame time: 1mn 20s - 5184.00 ppd
- new frame time: 1mn 13s - 5681.10 ppd

- 8800GT 256MB (shaders @ 1782) x 2

- old frame time: 1mn 25s - 4879.06 ppd
- new frame time: 1mn 16s - 5456.84 ppd

Let's see... carry the two, ahh... That little stunt just netted me another 1600ppd!!!! Again, I might just be behind the times... growing complacent with my GPU2 installs... so I don't know if it's the v1.13 core, the drivers, or what... but I'm liking it. :D

It's v1..13 of the core. I'm still running 177.35. It appears to give about a 10% boost.

9800GTX is just over 6900 ppd on v1.13 of the FahCore_11:

-- 9800 GTX --

Min. Time / Frame : 1mn 00s - 6912.00 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 1mn 06s - 6283.64 ppd
Cur. Time / Frame : 1mn 00s - 6912.00 ppd
R3F. Time / Frame : 1mn 00s - 6912.00 ppd
Eff. Time / Frame : 1mn 08s - 6098.82 ppd

I just installed 1.13 so the average is for the old core (actually 6184, it came up some already)

Will the v1.13 core run on the original v6.20 client... or do folks need the v6.20r1?

My v6.20 vanilla clients were stuck on v1.09... but I didn't try to force a core update either. Just updated to v6.20r1.

Just curious... so maybe others won't have to go through upgrading their clients to v6.20r1 if they don't have to. Easier just to delete the old core and let the new one download. :)

AS far as I can tell, it doesn't matter which cuda drivers you're using or which client. I haven't upgraded any of mine to r1. Stop the client, delete FahCore_11, restart the client, and you'll have 10% better ppd.

Well, here's my first result... this shader clock has been stable, stable, stable... no problems until now. I'm going to back down a notch and see if that clears it up. Even then, the boost from the v1.13 core highly outweighs having to bring the clocks down a touch.

Just downloaded v1.13 and received a nice boost. From ~4200ppd->~4700ppd (+500ppd). One thing I do notice is it's using almost twice as much CPU now. Used to be less than 10% of one cpu core with v1.09, with v1.13 I've seen spikes up to 27% and rarely less than 10%. This is on rig in sig.

Thanks! Just updated my work rig, and I'll do my home ones as soon as I get home.

My PPD has been down a bit, and I notice the stats for the team are down a bit as well, so I've been looking for reasons. I know this isn't it, but it will help make up for the 10-15% loss in PPD I've had this last week.

Edit: Well, I went from 20200 PPD (roughly) to 22271 PPD.

I'll keep an eye and make sure none of them EUE for a bit, but I haven't been pushing them that hard, as I've got heat issues to deal with. But it looks like they are doing great!

Also looks like my hottest card is running 2-3°C hotter as a result. I'm not sure I like 82°C, but as long as it doesn't EUE, I'll go with it. Better than the 98-100°C it was running before I got on the Accelero S1 on it. It is running about 150 PPD less than the other cards though, but it is also overclocked less too.

Edit: Edit: Make that 22427 PPD.

Stop the client, delete FahCore_11, start the client. Version 1.13 autoloads from Stanford..

didn't work on either client

tried my main one 3 times.

guess I'll try it later...

Just a shot in the dark here, is it still reporting 1.09 in the log? I'm asking because I almost tried again when it downloaded FahCore_11, because I thought it was supposed to be FahCore_13, until I checked the log and saw it reported 1.13 in there.

Edit: Hottest card up to 84°C, so I've dropped the overclock a bit more. No EUEs yet.

Harlam you should work for Intel or AMD.

I appreciate the compliment... really, I do. However, I don't believe it's warranted. I'm not smart enough to work for those guys... and knowledge of (read- addiction to) FAH isn't something I would put on my resume.

Well, maybe I could work for AMD... they seem to let any riff raff run the show these days. :D

As for the updated core...

I'm still having trouble with my XFX 8800GT 256MB cards... they aren't EUE'ing or UM'ing (UNSTABLE_MACHINE - b/c we need a shorthand for that ;)) every time. But I'd say every 1 out of 4 is having a problem. Not instantly... it generally gets at least half way through the unit. Dropped the shader clocks on both cards again this morning. We'll see how that fairs... if I'm still seeing incomplete work I'll back them down to stock.

My other two cards 8800GT 512MB & 8800GTS 512MB are doing fine at their previous clocks. :)

One of my 256 GT cards shut down the GPU2 client, but when I restarted it, it was ok, and the WU wasn't trashed or EUE'd. I went ahead and dropped the overclock on the 2 256M cards without temp sensors down about 75 Mhz. I'm now running at 80-82°C again after being up for about 45 minutes. I'm also now running between 21700/22000 PPD. I can live with that ;) :santa:

If you change to the newer cuda drivers along with the change to v1.13, you're likely to lose the Riva Tuner fan settings and revert to auto control, which doesn't boost fan speed enough to handle the extra heat from the new core.

My two XFX cards don't respond to Riva Tuner fan speed settings... standard or low-level fan control. I think they just run full-out, 100% all the time. I've never (audibly) noticed the speed changing.

These cards also had the most problem with the 430pt WUs that we had briefly... so if this new core is creating more heat, as did the 430pt WUs, I'm not surprised they're having issues.

Thank you for the insight on the v1.13 on the GPU platform. Below is a list of Cards that I have folding and the change in PPD.

XFX 8800GS 4147PPD to 4610PPD
XFX 8800GT 5220PPD to 5675PPD
EVGA 8800GT 4900PPD to 5520PPD
EVGA 8800GS 4700PPD to 5250PPD
EVGA 8600GT 1625PPD to 1865PPD

Again this new core has bought my points up by 10% across the board.

I think I must have had early bird blindness. both 9800gtx's are at above 6k ppd

I dont think I saw an increase with my 8800GTX.. :/

I'm 57% through the new WU and Im still at 5184PPD exactly where my last one was. :( Maybe the next wu will start to jump. Oh well science is science. :)
