RAID 5 question

What would be the total size of the RAID5 configuration if I had 2x500GB and 1x400GB HDD's?? Would the array have to run all drives @ 400GB each?

Is that possible to do?

Thanks

Total size would be 800GB. You'll loose 100GB on each 500GB drive and loose another 400GB due to parity. You loose a lot of space in a 3 disk RAID 5, because you loose the volume of 1 disk to parity.

But to answer your questions, yes they have to run at 400GB, and yes it will work.

I think its better to purchase new 500 GB hard disk & you can save your 200 GB wastage
