OK, if you go over to the AMD CPU section you see a lot of posts about "bang for the buck" processors and how they excel in that regard. Well, I decided to upgrade one of my farm rigs from a Celey 326 to something that will put out better ppd/power usage and ran across the E5200. I just got it in yesterday evening and installed into my P35-DS3L system and after playing with it last night and today, I have it running at 4 GHz, and for an $84 investment.

So, I was wondering what other kinds of cheap dual core Intel procs we have bought here and what kind of overclocks you are getting out of them. Also, post up your results if you are underclocking too so we can see how low a voltage you can get them to run and still do meaningful work. The main 2 criteria for listing in this thread are:

  • Cost - I picked $100 as the cost ceiling, excluding shipping and tax.
  • At least a dual core processor. It can be a dual core Celeron, Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 Duo.

I would like to see them listed as follows:

  • Processor - whatever it's called. Also, you can include whether it's 65nm or 45nm tech.
  • Stock speed -
  • Overclocked (or underclocked) speed -
  • Vcore at overclocked speed -
  • Cooling -
  • Motherboard - (manufacturer and model)
  • Processor Cost - optional

You can post some simple screenshots if you want but it's not necessary. Also, if it was a suicide run state so. I'm primarily wondering about stable 24/7 clocks.

Since this is my thread, I will start off first. ;)

  • Processor - Pentium Dual Core E5200 (45nm)
  • Stock speed - 2500 MHz
  • Overclocked speed - 3996 Mhz
  • Vcore - 1.472v
  • Cooling - TRUE with Panaflo M1BX
  • Motherboard - Gigabyte P35-DS3L rev 1.0)
  • Processor cost - $84

CPU: E2140
Process: 65nm
Stepping: L2 - Allendale
Stock: 1.6ghz // 200mhz fsb // 1.325v
OC: 3ghz // 375mhz fsb // 1.3375v (will do 3.2ghz w/ more voltz)
Cooling: Tuniq Tower 120
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-S3L rev. 1.0
Cost: ~$70 today. ~$90 when i bought it.

CPU:e1200
Process: 65nm
Stepping: ?? have no idea only think there is one for this chip
OC: 3.2Ghz 100% OVER CLOCK under 1.45V wanna say 1.408V.
Cooling: cheap *** AF7.
Mobo: Abit IP35 Pro
Cost what around 40-50 bucks on newegg. Got mine new for a lot less then that. 14 bucks!

Did you make this thread just for me? :)

  • Processor - Pentium Dual Core E5200 (45nm)
  • Stock speed - 2500 MHz
  • Overclocked speed - 4165 Mhz
  • Vcore - 1.44v (not stable at this voltage)
  • Underclocked speed - 2000 Mhz
  • Vcore - 0.856v
  • Cooling - Cooler Master Hyper 212
  • Motherboard - MSI P43 Neo3-F
  • Processor cost - $84

Actually, your thread was the deal breaker that convinced me to go with the E5200. A darn nice little processor for the money you pay for it, and cool running too. :thup:

Hi. My first post here, and most likely the only one where I don't ask a question or two. Treat me gently. ;)

* Processor - Core2Duo E4500 (65nm)

* Stock speed - 2200 MHz

* Overclocked speed - 3000 Mhz (333x9)

* Vcore - 1.4000v (Prime failed with less)

* Cooling - Stock CPU cooler, 1x 80mm intake fan, 1x 80mm exhaust fan (Temps too high - adding a third 80mm fan)

* Motherboard - Gigabyte P45-DS3R rev 1.0 (F10 BIOS)

* Processor cost - NZ$180 - (US$100)

Cheers,
Andy.
