Which DVD burner?

samsung: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151173

asus: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135156

lite-on: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106073

I'm leaning towards the asus or lite-on just because I've had their products before, but the samsung is 22x speed.

Out of those I would go with the Samsung. Stay away from liteon as they burn out too quickly and don't last. I have to replace an aging Plextor.

I just went through the same thing and, after some research on cdfreaks.com, ended up with a samsung sh-s203b. Apparently the newest one in your link is no good and it's hard to find the sh-s203b now since it's been discontinued and replaced by the one you linked. I finally found mine at nowdirect.com. http://www.nowdirect.com/exec/partIn...BE&categoryid=
I know their reseller ratings score sucks but they got me my burner very quickly with the best packaging I've ever seen for a decent price. I'm getting Nero cddvdspeed quality scan scores of 95 out of 100 with this drive, taiyo yuden tygo2 media, and the latest firmware update. If you want to stick with newegg then just get a Pioneer. The votes for best drives of 2008 went to the Pioneer dvr-215, dvr-115 and the samsung sh-s203b which I got. The newest Pioneer that Newegg has should be up to snuff with the last model once the firmware matures some.

Yes, SH-S203B. It's a great drive, but hard to get ahold of.

TBH the LG Super Multi Security DVD Writer 20x20x12x has been treating me just fine as well and only $27 CDN.

why is the one I linked no good? I can't seem to get a definitive answer on what to get. Some say the samsung is good, some don't. You guys are recommending different drives, where others recommend the asus. Ahh I don't know what to pick!

You will always get that. It's not like it's RAM or a CPU. What's the worst that could happen? You blow $25.00 on a DVD drive and you don't like it. Try another one.

I'm tellin ya, the LG is a great drive and will most likely not let you down. They've yet to let me, or my family down in the year we have used them.

mmmmm, good question. I would have to pull it out of the rig.

It's this one though.
