Looking for Music player that can acces MySQL music based database

Linux has a music player called amarok and it uses MySQL to make a database of all the music files (it speeds up access a lot).I tried the windows install of amarok and it didn't like me; the KDE installed had problems, and it's all still developmental.

I'm wondering what programs can access this type of database (it's set up in linux and i want to access it from the windows computer.)

I'm going to make a similar post in the AltOS section to see if a linux program can create a DAAP share that itunes can read (I know that some linux programs can access a DAAP share, but the music is stored on that computer, and I can't find a program to create a DAAP share, in addition Apple modified itunes so it won't connect to a linux DAAP share in version 7.0)

So it stores the actual music (mp3, flac, etc) in the SQL database, not just using it for metadata?

Interesting.

There's probably nothing out there to read their database setup directly (apart from amoark itself, of course). You can interface with the database directly, but that still leaves playback, etc. And it would defenitly require some programming on your end.

Leaves DAAP. And I guess don't use iTunes on the Windows side?

With the release of iTunes 7.0, Apple changed their implementation of DAAP. This change prevents any third-party client, such as a computer running Linux, a modified Xbox, or any computer without iTunes installed, from connecting to a remote iTunes repository. iTunes will still connect as a client to other iTunes servers and to third-party servers
(From Wikipaedia)
Yes, my wife likes iTunes fine so i can go that route, i just can't find a program that likes to make a DAAP share right now.

Here's the wiki page for amarok mysql howto.
It does store the metadata, but as a MySQL for faster acces as opposed to searching each individual file. I wanted to access to reduce time spent searching the files for changes and updating them on each individual computer (I have 3-4 that are going to connect to it).
Though, if i could find a way for it to store the MP3s that would be fairly neat.

Ah, ok, see the problem.

Amarok currently can't act as a DAAP server, and as the metadata you want avaliable to other machines is thus unavailable due to nothing else being capable of reading Amarok's database (as of yet).

I don't see anyway around that other than waiting for Amarok to support being a DAAP server, or if some other media player that supports being a DAAP server updates to allow importing from the amarok database.

I saw your other thread, and so I guess you'll just need to go without the extra metadata for now (by using something else as the DAAP server)

I was able to find a DAAP server for linux, but it isn't scanning all my music (~600 of 14000). I'll have to look into it and see how it likes/dislikes recursive data.
