I can't get QOS on my router to run correctly.

I have set the quality of service option on my Linksys wrt54g router

The QOS service option on my Linksys WRT54G doesn't seem to be making any difference. I have it so that uTorrent (port 37690) is set to Low Priority yet when I'm using Firefox browsing the internet is very slow and uTorrent seems to hog all the bandwidth.

Set utorrent to use a low number of overall connections (through its own settings) on the target system, and a low number of connected peers per torrent. By default it will attempt to open many concurrent connections regardless of QOS settings and it'll slow your connection. Additionally you'll want to limit your upload rate to 1/6th-1/3rd your total upstream speed.

If you're using DD-WRT/Tomato firmware on your router, you could try lowering the timeouts on TCP/IP and UDP connections, and increasing the total number of connections available to 4096.
